I can't argue with you R3D. It is a valid point. And i agree the '05 GTs are extremely nice looking. And i don't really know why i am thinking ahead about susus and mitzus going faster than new Stangs. I mean, i don't even have the car yet! That's gonna come at a much later date.
About this shift kit thing...so basically what this gadget does is somehow alter the timing/power that would normally be subdued with an auto?

Default More Auto Bashing...

So much auto bashing and yet I doubt that any of you have even driven the new 5 speed auto.

I have races two 05's with a stick and easly beat both of them in the 1/8 mile. Yes the tire spin is not as much on the auto, but guess what, tire spin COSTS you speed and time at the track, it does not help...

I am sure the the stick is faster in the 1/4 mile due to the higher end gearing of the auto in 4th. I doubt that there are many tranny jockies that can beat this auto in the 1/8 mile ( more common in the stop light races ) . However, I realise that male ego precludes any of you from admitting this...

Before you bash somthing, you should at least take the time to learn the truth....

And for the record, I admit that I would probably have said the same type of Bull before I actually drove the Auto 05 GT for a while.....

As for the buyers's remorse guy.....Sell the car and buy a GTO.... It is ugly, but it will run....

A GTO? Why would I want a hopped up Grand Am? If I did have a chance to do it all over though I would buy and old classic. Stick with what you know I say. I understand everyone gets a little upset when I say the Mustang lacks in power and it's not bad for stock. However the Mustang is the measuring point that tuners base their performance from. You always hear how they beat a Mustang. I just don't want to be the one they beat. So I'm gonna try and make it as fast as it looks.

Ok look, first of all some prefer sticks and some prefer autos, no need to get "up in arms", lol.Firstly, the corporate production auto trannies are basically built for customer percieved comfort and smoothness. Most drivers don't want a thud and whiplash on shift, especially if the coffee is hot. So the engineers make them to actually hold the "clutch" for a longer duration and making for longer "overlap" means one gear disengaging as the next gear engages ( causing actually more wear and heat to the parts) and greater loss of crankshaft power to the wheels. Back in the day before chips, we would put in mechanical "shift kits" to minimize the duration of the auto shifting. The result was more power to wheels with a huge "snap" during shifts, I mean you thought the tranny was going to fall out of the car but, it is actually better for the tranny to shift this way. Nowadays, you have mechanical kits AND chip tuners to alter shift points , etc.

That said, who beats who in a race depends alot on many variables, the main ones are of course RWHP to weight rayshio, gearing, tires, suspension-power to wheels (ET drag tires, traction control arms, springs, etc). Just as important is the D R I V E R. If a clown with a stick revs to 3000rpm and dumps clutch, he will lose with stock components. If he has high performance kits and mods, he may just disappear down the line. So really, if you are rolling sticks between stoplights lol, all else being equal it wouldn't surprise me. I drove the GT auto, didn't care for it. Thats just me. I want to be in control of when and where I shift, I can also control the exhaust sounds and downshift to save my brake wear.
I have already modded my 'Stang to 300 RWHP and plan to get 30 or so more through a few more mods, naturally aspirated only. Believe me, I can break em loose anytime if I want to or, that I am not careful, especially with Traction Control off, it does nothing for your acceleration to spin tires.
Bottom line, learn to drive your 'Stang with the best results and lets not give ricers and 4 doors a free GT notch cuz you got newb'ed on the race.
