Default Please rate the sound system

I'm particularly interested in hearing opinions from anyone with a pre 2005 mustang that has now switched to the '05. I have a '99 GT with what used to be the mach sound system. I was rather disappointed in the quality especially considering the fact that I'd paid extra for the mach. I have since completely replaced everything and am much happier. So now I'm wondering how the sound system is in the '05s since I plan on getting a GT convertible at some point in the future. Should I get a base system and plan to replace or do you actually like the factory system? On a scale of 1 - 10 how happy are you?

Thanks,
Ken

I had a 2001 Mustang with the Mach 460 and now have a '05 Mustang with the 1000 Shaker, and personally, I liked both... The 460 was decent, especially for a stock system, plus I love the in-dash disc changer... The 1000 Shaker sounds even better, more bass obviously and has the MP3 capability... *Knock on wood* I haven't had any problems with my system and as long as it works, I'll definitely keep it... On a scale of 1-10, I would say about 8... It's not the complete package and it's a bit over-priced, but for a stock system, it's pretty nice...

After market stereos are almost always better than stock ones. I haven't heard the shaker 500, but I heard the 1000. Lots of power, but not an extremly clean sound. My mustang will have the 500 in it, and I only went that way to get the leather. I also don't want to swap recievers since it won't have the same finished look that the stock one has. plus with the 6 disc in dash changer with mp3 capability, will be real nice.

That was my biggest complaint about the mach system in my '99. It was not very clear. If it had been more clear then I probably would have stuck with it.

So the shaker 500 is pretty much required when you want leather interior? I was hoping for leather this time around.

I have the 1000 and love it. Sounds great for a dealer system IMO. I do plan on replacing the mid/tweet combos for a little more separation. That is quite a ways down the line as the motor is getting my attention . . . and $$$.
