Default rear bumper "kissed" by a semi-truck

okay, so not a "major thread" here, just want to find some sympathy...was on my way home from work tonight and a semi truck just really,REALLY wanted a piece of my rear bumper....SOB "thumped" into me TWICE. no body damage (to me or the stang), but my baby's rear bumper will need to be replaced. i'm just sad....i hope that no one else gets the "semi-truck kiss" cause it SUCKs...OUCH! i think i may have whiplash, or perhaps, with the right attorney, i may soon be part owner of a trucking company!

oh yeah... and i forgot to mention that the A-hole trucker NEVER once asked if i was okay or even seemed to care that he hit my car. AND the dammmm state trouper (who showed up about 35 to 40 minutes after i had called 911) just rolled his eyes at me when i pointed out the damage to my bumper. he said that he did not consider it "significant damage" and since he was not present at the time the "event" occurred, he couldn't give the truck driver a ticket . OKAY..it was obvious that i was hit from behind and its not like i merged onto I-95 and then threw my car into reverse because it seemed like a good idea! ...i just don't get it. oh well.....

Yup. If you were a little old granny driving a buick they would have hauled the truck driver into the cop shop. You're an able guy driving a Mustang so they figure you can just shell out the bucks to fix it.

I feel for you...hope you are not hurt too bad. The trucker was probably told by his company and/or insurance carrier to avoid all contact or speaking with people after he gets in an accident. Anything he says might come back to bite him and the company/insurance carrier in the a$$. He probably was worried about if he hurt you...but he couldn't speak with you or convey any remorse (i.e. remorse shows guilt). Or he just may have been an a-hole like you said. I have had some company drivers not want to speak with me in regards to accidents and I was the investigating officer! They needed to wait for their company representative!

Now in regards to the trooper...he can't run light and siren to a non-injury accident. He/she would get time-off (and then lose tons of money for the state in a lawsuit) for an accident that they caused/involved in if they were in emergency response to a non-emergency call. In addition, troopers have vast areas to cover and more important calls than your fender bender with a little whip-lash. I think not citing the truck driver was probably a little lazy though...rear-enders are the easiest to cite on. However, the trucker will probably say you were driving like a maniac and cut in front of him (to his boss). Florida is a no fault state anyways...right? Good luck and hope you are feeling better!

leesi, sorry to hear about your accident. To make this a positive note, seeing that you have the V6, maybe you can get a better looking bumper body kit now. You may have to pay the cost difference, but you get a good upgrade at a very minimal price.

4511.21- thanks for your input about the trucker and the trooper and all... i'm sure it will all work out okay. i think the WORST damage has been sustained by my mental health.

RedDominion- what kind of bumper body kit do you recommend? (not that i am thinking of changing a thing about my little V6, cause i love her just the way she is, BUT... it never hurts to check out alternatives that could make my baby even sweeter)

Anyway- thanks to everyone on the forum for making me feel a little better about this...

ps- i'm not an "able guy driving a mustang"...i'm a chick...LEESI??? does that sound like a name a dude would have? (god, i hope not!) LOL

Default My sympathy to you

Leesi,

I am so sorry to hear about your rotten experience. Sometimes life just doesn't seem fair. Could the trucker run into an old pickup that already has dozens of dents and scrapes, NO, he has to pick on a brand new car.

I cringe every time I see someone coming up fast in my rearview mirror. Seems like we are targets for them.

Anyway, glad your not hurt and the car isn't too bad. I guess it could have been much worse.

Dan
