I've spent lots of time looking at a large number of web sites. I cannot find a decent polished stainless steel slide-on bolt-down sleeve that will snugly cover the stock GT tips without having to either weld them on or cut the current tips off for replacement. A couple come pretty close, but there is no 3" x 9.5" nice model out there. Something with a rolled end would be nice - but no ricer-like coffee can tips. Just a nice polished stainless steel number would really set off the back for those who prefer to keep the stock exhaust system. Will somebody please manufacture these and post on this site when available?

I think given a little more time, we will begin seeing more and more accessories for our new ponies. Just have to be patient for awhile. I'm holding off several things until I see what is available in a few more weeks.
What about chrome? I have the Ford acc. parts on my GT. They are chrome with rolled ends and slip over the stock tips and look great. No drilling, just slip over and tighten the clamp. Cost is about 100 dollars from ford parts. I think chrome looks better that the stainless that is stock on the car. Ford part number is 5k238. I think you will love it!
Doug thanks for the tip. Chrome is OK, but it often peels and chips pretty quickly. I'm looking for highly polished stainless steel - I think the best example is referred to as T-304 stainless. I'll be patient and see what comes later.

Thanks Sam - those won't fit (need a 3" inlet), plus it's a 4" outlet which would make it look like a ricer with coffee cans. Appreciate the tip though.
Wild Chick...Chill. The point is some of us aren't 25 year old females and we want to leave the stock mufflers on. The stock tips don't do it for me though.

I agree with Bill. In my opinion, the stock mufflers are decent in looks and performance. There's reason why Ford went through alot of effort to get the sound right. Some may say that aftermarket mufflers like JBA or Bassani will increase HP because the stock mufflers are too restrictive. What kind of HP gains are we talking about? I've been reading and participating on the forum since last September and I'd be hard pressed if anyone has gotten more than 4-6 additional HP with aftermarket mufflers; and, at a price of $400 to $700?
With regard to the sound, that's a matter of personal preference. I like the sound of the GT right from the factory; I don't see a need to change anything except the tips.
As Bill said, a nice, highly polished SS tip with a minimum 3" inlet and a 3-1/2" outlet with angled rounded edges to give the rear end that finished look. As long as the mufflers stay clean, they look fine. And when they're clean, they look no different than many of the aftermarket mufflers that are out there.
