Default Enlighten me...on fog lights

Im undecided if my V6 will get GT fog lights, aftermarket fog light, or remain with no fog lights. There are merits for all three.

I have about 6 Mustang forums in my favorites that I try and review each day or so.

There seems to be conflicting information on installing the GT fog light switch in a non-GT.

Some people say it doesnt work, some say it works sometimes, some say it works like a charm.

What to believe? Can anyone with first hand experience weigh in and state the facts?

I may consider a 4th option, a GT bumper and a V6 grill. I dont need a front license plate and I love the clean look of the GT front bumper, I just cant decide if I like those fogs or not.

I wish I knew. I couldn't afford the insurance/higher note on the gt, but I sure would like those fogs.

All the conflicting info has me too paranoid to spend $350+ for the moment

If I can find the replacement stuff I might have a take off piece for you at a reasonable price.

I can build you a V6 grill with fog lights in it that will be an exact fit for your car.I have built 4 grilles already and the nice part about using the V6 grill is they snap right in place.

Cost IS NOT an issue. Im very handy with all sorts of tools and have been doing most of my own wrenching for over 30 years.

I am very picky about my cars. If I install fogs and cant make the factory switch work, then I will go with a remote switch. Im not hacking into my harness for any reason.

3 replies and no one is addressing my question?????????

I use the remote switch on my grille and that is the best solution in my opinion. The V6 grill fits better the a GT on a V6 and I would not recommend putting the GT light switch in a V6 unless you want a Ford dealer to do it.To many unknowns in the wiring when using the GT light switch. With the remote switch all you have to do on a V6 is use 2 12 volt tabs that are not used in a V6 but have 12 volts available.I wanted fog lights on my V6 but using a GT grille,GT fog lights,Gt front bumper cover and a GT light switch was way to expensive. The V6 grill with fog lights installed are a fraction of the cost of all the GT stuff.

And hey, Mr Wick. Im not knocking you, my family tends to own Mustangs for a long time, so what ever work we do, we do right, with all Ford parts. My folks bought a 67 coupe brand new, we kept that one for over 20 years. Only sold it because a new car dealer made an offer my folks couldnt refuse. My little brother has owned his 68 since 1980. My last one a 88GT, I had for over 11 years. My sister bought a new Mustang in 74, and still owns it. I plan on keeping this one until I check out of here.

Converting to an entire GT front end is ok with me, its costly, but Im a detail person. Im just trying to figure out the deal with the switch. Im reading alot of conflicting info on the web.

The only thing I have seen regarding compatability of the factory switch said you had to get the wiring harness as well.

Just had my fogs installed at the dealership I purchased my stang at today. I'll post pictures tomorrow (or so)... We used 5" lights, the factory wiring harness, gt switch, and V6 grill... The results are more asthetic than functional I found out driving home tonight, but I basically just wanted the look, so I'm happy!!

I read all the forums and decided to do it. It came out great in my eyes ( check out My gallery). Yes there are gaps towards the sides and a little over hang on the front. We are talking like 1/4 inch at the most. If you are a perfectionist/ obsessive compulsive it probably won't look good. People on the street don't notice 1/4 inch gaps going 60+ . I have a 2001 Supercrew F150 and thats where I learned that customizing means things aren't going to fit perfect and you have to do what you can do to make it the way you want. I also used a remote switch (20.00 APC brand local auto parts store) on separate circuit (inline fuse) from the battery and works great. No problems so far..So It Works but it up to you if you like. :thumbsup

Normally Fog lights are mounted low on a vehicle and driving lights are mounted high. So these should be really considered driving lights, but it is interesting that Ford chose to install Fog lights there in the grill. Since I have taken my grill off to install higher wattge bulbs (9005's @ 100w) the label on the light says Fog Light. Ok, I'm being picky here, but hopefully someone will come out with a true Driving Light replacement in place of the fogs and a good high intensity fog to go in the lower grill area. I have a set of PIAA's I may check to see if they will fit down low. They are 100w driving lights, so I will be upside down according ot my own words above! lol

anybody know how to make the stock GT inside "foglights" come on without having to turn on the normal headlights?

I think the stock "jeweled" lights have alot of bling in the daytime and were done very well.

Without some rewiring (no head or parking lights at all), all you have to do is turn on the parking lights and pull out on the headlight knob. Unless you figured that out already. I would say Fred Fred might offer a solution to just the Fogs only and nothing else. There is a way to run the Fogs with the headlights, but not sure which wire to cut (blue, no red, no yellow! Boom!) Humor me here.... I have installed driving and fogs on other cars and not hooked up the wire to disable them when running with headlights also. It can be done.

Are you missing a V6 emblem on the drivers side or was it just a bad picture?
