Default 5 Speed GT Shift Knob

Has anyone removed their **** knob yet and replaced it with something else? I just wondered how hard it is to remove the knob? I'd like to get a Hurst shift knob (retro looking) but I can't quite figure out how the GT shift knob comes off.

If you figure it out I'd love to add that as well. It would be awesome!

When I changed out my radio, I played with it a bit. It loosened up when I turned it to the left, but the leather boot appears to be attached in some way. I didn't take it all the way off since I wasn't planning on replacing it atm so it could be a few screws holding the boot to the base of the knob.

Its very easy to remove. I have the IUP, but my car came with a black shift knob. They sent me the right one in the mail. It just unscrews, (turn it to the left). It takes a while. Once its loose just pull it out of the leather boot. The leather has a lip around it where it attaches to the shift knob. I am an idiot and I figured it out.

the leather boot just pops off (clips underneath). Just grab ahold of the leather boot and pull up it will pop off.

Yep, just unscrew it! Easy mod

The thread size is pretty common in the aftermarket shifters, so you have a huge selection to choose from.

I happen to like the shift knob myself.

Thanks for all of the info folks. I just purchased a Hurst knob and am going to have it powder coated candy apple red (except for the raised portion which says Hurst) like most of the other billet parts I've done. I'll post pictures when I'm done.

When you say the thread size is pretty common, could you tell me what thread size that would be, so I can know what I look for? I want one like in those promo '05 pictures (the shiny aluminum ball, I'm sure there's a better way to describe it) and knowing the thread would help me narrow down my choices. Thanks!

Here's the picture of the shifter knob I'd like... so if you happen to know where to find it, I will be forever grateful.

this is an old school chrome dipped Hurst shift handle I have in mind, can somebody photo shop it onto the 05 stick? It may be too big for the short throw but, it is awsum looking.
