Awesome Tour of Mustang plant yesterday! Wow.....My Mustang club made arrangements to attend a plant tour of the AutoAlliance plant in Flat Rock Michigan yesterday.
All the 2005 Mustangs are made at this plant!
I would like to say that the level of commitment and enthusiasm of the people who work at this plant far exceeded my expectations.
These guys and gals are so pumped up about this vehicle , we were going through the plant giving high 5's to employees we passed on the line!
There is a new Mustang being "Born" almost every minute of the day!
The mix at the plant is about 47 Mustangs and about 30 Mazda 6's per hour. The plant was originally set up for 1 shift and they have gone to 2 -10 hour shifts to give us as many Mustang's as they can.
The AutoAlliance plant is much more than a typical assembly plant. They actually fabricate a large number of major components there. It was amazing to see the huge die stamping machines cranking out complete SIDES of Mustangs in 1 piece!
In case you did not know, the Hood is actually Aluminum!
At the end of the line the cars come off and are Dyno checked and put through high pressure wash units and air chambers for leaks etc. They gathered a bunch of cars for us as they were coming off the line at the end so we could all have a better look. Wow 20 GT's idling inside sounded like the pits at LeMans!
The line is integrated to manage any combination of Mustang of either type, or Mazda in any color combination back to back without consideration for whichever car is ahead or behind it on the line. The engine and complete front end assembly come in from underneath the cars and get bolted up into position.
I parked my car out front waiting for a spot in visitors parking, and a bunch of people came out to see the stripe kit I had put on. They really liked the fact that some people are individualizing the cars to each others taste.
These are really great car people!
In the plant they do not call the convertible's, convertibles......They call them Rag Tops!! Yea...these are the guys and gals I thanked for making the best new car I ever owned!
Please be proud of Ford for this design, and UAW chapter 3000 for bringing us the the Best Mustang Yet!
P.S. we looked really hard for the '07 Shelby they apparently have hidden there...no luck!
