Best Method to burn MP3 discs that work in Shaker 500?
This has probably been answered before but couldn't find anything in my quick search of the old posts. What is the best method to burn MP3 files to disc so that I can cram the full 700mb onto a disc that will actually play in my Shaker 500? I have Win XP on the computer and tried to burn an MP3 disc using the Windows XP drag and drop but it forces me to go to Windows Media Player. So if I make a "data disc" of MP3s the Shaker 500 won't read it (getting a "bad disc" error message). Part of the attraction of this Shaker was the ability to play large MP3 discs. Anybody out there have a good method to burn massive amounts of MP3s (more than 17 songs!) on a disc that will actually work?
Are you sure the files you are trying to burn are MP3s? I know that many different burning programs use different formats, so the files you are putting on a disk may be any number of different file types.
I think the easiest way to do it is to select all of the MP3s you want to put on a CD, and copy and paste them onto your CD drive...this will store them as files "ready to be written to the CD". Then, once you're done sticking them in the folder, click the icon on the left to burn the CD. This should work fine in your car.
what program are you using to rip your CDs? To see what file type they are, right click on any of them, and go to properties. It should say MPEG Layer 3 Audio in the description
A MP3 cd is always going to be a data cd. If you drag and drop into the music cd box it converts to regular cd audio and you only get 15-20 songs. Make sure your songs are actually in MP3 format, most ripping programs default to something else and you have to go into the options and change it to MP3,

I rip my CD's with musicmatch at a bitrate of 192k, then I use NERO 6 and burn a Data disc. I put each album in 1 folder level so they are seperate
for example if the cd is drive d: in a computer
D:\Nine Inch Nails - Downward Spiral\
D:\Ministry - Psalm69\
then in each folder is the corresponding mp3's for the album
I dont have any problem at all, except the shaker only appears to recognize either id3 or id3v2 tags, havent experimented to see which, but some stuff shows the titles and some doesnt, so have to check which ones the titled ones have in my collection.
One possibility for the standard windows burning not being read, is by default when using drag and drop maybe it doesnt close the CD, just the session, make sure the CD burning is closed (this will not allow any further burning) and make the disc as compatible as possible. Or possibly you have some bad media.

Your easiest solution is called iPod. Otherwise, make sure musicmatch isn't making wma or aac files. Try downloading iTunes and let that manage your music. The preferences allows you to choose burning options which include an mp3 data CD. It'll do it all for you and should work.
Just putting in my 2 cents. I burned a cd via windows media player (which I particularly don't care for) and I got the same message, bad disk. It then ejected it on me and I got pissed and put it back in and then it has been working. I do know also that it was going back to the first track after playing like the first 8 or 9 tracks. However, if I manually go beyond 9 to 10, 11, etc. it will play them. So basically I'm not sure what's up but it does seems to have issues for sure. I have the Shaker 500. A regular CD seems fine and doesn't have any issues for me. I do like Nero but I haven't tried it yet for burning a music CD I generally end up using media player because it's convenient.

I had the same problem with my MP3. I was trying to burn them from my laptop and none of them worked on the Shaker but they did work when I played them on my home system. Went to the dealer and tried another MP3 system in a different Ford which didn't work either.
I then burned them from another computer and it worked fine.
If you can try another computer. If not at least try a program that burns directly to MP3. You can find many freeware programs or try Roxio EZ CD Creator or a similar program.

I would recommend itunes. In the preferences go to the burning tab and select mp3 cd. Then create a play list and drag all the songs that you want to burn to the cds to the playlist. Then select the playlist and the browse button at the top right of itunes will change to a burn button. Click the burn button and itunes will prompt you to insert a blank disk. It wll then start burning. If the list is larger than the capacity of the disk it will automatically span disks. It will fill the first disk and ask you for another disk. It will continue until the playlist is completed. As long as you use cd-r (not cd-rw) these play great in the shaker.
I have over 500 cds stored in my two computers. All WAV files. Rather than go thru a lot of hoops converting these files to mp3 and then burning them, I bought a program that converts them automatically and records all info on the cd so that the shaker displays the album (or playlist name) and the song title.
Some players will not recognize cd-rw cd's especially if you do not "close" the session first, there should be an option for that, it means that you can no longer burn to the cd.

Are there any recommendations for reliable inexpensive programs that can do this sort of thing?????

Programs usually come with the cd-burners (lite versions), I have had luck with both Roxio and Nero. They are around 50ish and up depending on the features, usually you can find them on sale from compusa or other puter stores.
They are nice because they ask you if you want to burn a data or music cd.
Try not to use CD-RW's they take longer to burn and if you do not close your session, another player probably will not be able to read them.

I use Nero Ultra Edition, the problem is all cds are loaded onto pc in Windows media player and are not in MP3 format and need converted. I was asking about good conversion software so I don't have to re-rip cds, etc.
Thanks

Are they wmv or wma format? I have used windows media player ver. 10 to convert them to mp3's, is that what you mean?
