I've been reading this forum for months and followed the threads of people patiently waiting for their cars, their frustrations with dealers and allocations, Fords inability to react or predict to the market, the joy of finally getting a car, and great people like Fred-Fred who went the extra mile to help people get their rides.
I've been waiting for this car to arrive since it was unvieled to the public. Once it was out we all waited for production to ramp up and cars to arrive at dealers. This never occured. So now we have a car that was available for order in what, October, and within just a few months of that you still cannot get one or order. Ford.... Anyway, given the numbers of people waiting on orders and the orders that are being placed for the 06's, is there any inclination by Ford to increase production numbers for the next year. Given the trends and the number of people waiting I see this whole cycle repeating itself for the next model year. This time next year we will have the same issues getting cars, allocations, etc. Has anyone found any information to dispute or confirm this ?
I drove a white 05 GT about three months ago that a local dealer had. It did not have the IUP package which I wanted so I began the hunt for cars and zip code searches. I'm getting quite fed up with the waiting, lack of information from Ford, and the prospect of repeating history with orders etc.
Personally I think the situation will remain as is for awhile. I spoke with my dealer last week and inquired about placing an order for an 06 Shelby. He said not only couldn't he take the order for a Shelby he couldn't even take one for an 06 GT. The Shelby I can understand the GT I can't.
Yesterday I went to my dealer just to go to their parts dept. and check about locking gas caps and the SVT bullet wheels which are out now for this model. When I pulled up out front to park I am suddenly surrounded by 6 salesmen. Not to try and sell me anything, but because they all wanted to check out my car (it's a GT and they had only 1 V6 on the lot) and when I told them I had it since October they commented that they have not seen a comparably equiped model since about November - they just have not been able to get one. when I got mine I saw they had a Sonic blue and Mineral Gray GTs, but since then - zip!
Basically, I was one of the first to get one - and there have not been that many since, at least at this dealership - and it's pretty good sized.

I remember reading somewhere, could even have been here on AFM, that Ford intentionally decided to keep production numbers low to avoid the new Thunderbird disaster in the event the new "retro" styling was a bust. Boy, were they ever wrong. That, I assume, is why Ford announced the production increase earlier this year. I had posted in another thread that AutoWeek magazine (May 9, 2005) reported that the 2006 Explorer is going to get the GT's 4.6 V8, though de-tuned to 292 hp. The F-150 (cash cow) also gets the GT's 4.6, so I foresee another round of shortages of 2006 GTs unless Ford ramps up 4.6 V8 production.

I don't think the 06 will sell like the 05, except for maybe the convertibles. Watch for a fire sale on the 05 V-6s in late summer...they are NOT moving off the lots. This was the 40th anniversary year, and next year the competition will be a lot stiffer.
I don't think Ford screwed up in total orders. They screwed up in planning production and keeping dealers informed. They should have built a 50/50 mix of Sixes and GTs from the start...that would have covered most of the back orders and grief we've seen in the first four months of this year.
We will probably see the back orders flood out in the summer, and suddenly there will be a lot more GTs on the road. Here in the suburbs of Chicago, I usually see one or two a week now, so I had my day as the only guy on the block for the month of April. I've seen ONE GT convertible.
I think the IUP was a disaster all around. I have it, and I can say that I never use the MyColor, and the nickel facing is merely adequate. Ford should have made the info center and two extra gauges standard, and said to hell with the facing vendor AND the Mycolor lawsuit.

The V-6s are not moveing here either. The Only Ford dealer in town has had the same V-6 for about a month. This is the first and only 05 they have had (Guess they don't get much allotment). Another dealer 45 miles away has had the same 2 V-6s for several months. It makes me wonder what kind of price they are asking. I may drop in and act interested just to see what they want for them. On the IUP, The car I ordered had the IUP. After 4 months of C/U I found the same car minus the IUP. I snatched it up. No regrets, I got the sport appearance package and I actually like it better. The car is black on black and I like the total black out effect. If I had waited to get the IUP I probably would still be waiting.

I probably will give up on the IUP. The more I look at the shiny metal I know that isn't me. The only thing I really wanted was the extra gauges in the cluster, and leather. The My Color thing is kinda juvenile IMHO.

The IUP doesn't add any shiny metal. It adds a satin aluminum finish to the dash. The air vents are shiny regardless. I think it is needed with the black interior to break it up a bit. With the other colors it isn't quite as necesary.

This may be a regional phenomenom. Around SC, V6's, especially with the premium package are selling well at or slightly above MSRP. In fact a quick search revelaed little or no inventory of V6 or V8 in my local area. I think the reason the V6 sells better is there were more available and more people were able to afford them. Let's be real, this car in either form is "killer" and very desirable. In my opinion, the GT owners and future owners in this forum actually represent a small percentage of the total 2005 Mustang market as the numbers don't lie-Ford has sold a bunch of Mustangs. Mostly V6's simply because of availability and price.. Also, most of the delivery complaints seem to come from "ordered" cars as opposed to whats available on Dealer lots. I just did a quick search in Raleigh, NC and Charlotte, NC and found around 20 GT's, both Coupes and Verts, so there are plenty out there waiting for a new owners. I really don't see a V6 "firesale" around here as there seem to be plenty of buyers who want nothing more than "A New Mustang."
