Default 05 GT 1/4 Mile Times

Ok, so I took my 05 GT, stock with street tires, to track for the second time last night. Previously the best out of two runs was a 14.7ET w/ a 60' ET of 2.5. The car really seemed to hesitate off the line as seen in the 60' time. Last night I got a total of ten passes in and had a chance to play. The first couple of runs were consistent at 14.7's w/ 60' @ 2.5. We decided to lower the air pressure in the rear tires from 42psi to 30psi and my friend ran a 14.22. We found that the car seemed to have more power if shifted at 5500 as apposed to 6000, and launching at 2500. The next run I did the same thing and posted the fastest time at 13.95 with a 1.90 60'. The car launched great off the line and didnt hesitate. The problem now was that we were having trouble with tire spin off the line and pulling second gear. We lowered the pressure to 20 psi and ran 14.22 with 1.9 60' time. At this point, the street tires were starting to heat up causing the tires to get slippier instead of better. I think with drag radials I'll see 13.5's. Has anyone else played around with launching, tires, and pressures? Another interesting feature though, is road and track mag states that in the 1/4mile the car will run 13.9 @ 102 MPH. The highest mph i had was 97.6 mph. Anyone know why there is a difference?

Another thing i was thinking about is has anyone ran at the track an 05 gt built with the hydro carbon thing and compared it to a car built newer without it?

The 1/4 mile is all about hook up in the start. You can lower your tire pressure to a point and then get to point of no returns. I have heard of cars over 3000 lbs being lower than 20 psi but not much. The tire heat is your biggest enemy. Don't wet box burn after the first or second pass, perhaps only a slight scratch to keep em a bit tacky. People over fry the tires pre run when they are already hot.

Your best bet as you seem very into the 1/4 mile, is to get Mickey Thompson drag ET's (kind of a hassle for the street guy), street ET's or BF Goodrich drag radials, etc. The stock tires are a compromise of cornering, wet, snow, and safety. 1/4 mile needs the right shoes. Would a 100meter dash guy run in wing tips? Btw, the best R&T 1/4 mile time is 13.5 sec after engine break in. You're on the right track and I wish I had time to get mine timed. Maybe this summer. From what I heard, with M/T drags you can launch the '05 at almost redline and scream down the track. Don't forget to match those new rubbers with Bogart rims or Centerlines.
Let us know if you do any of that and results.
