The good news is others have done so in years past, enough that this site http://www.geocities.com/markejhayden/import.html includes helpful FAQs.

The bad news is the outside mirrors on the 2005 Mustang do not fold in. According to the FAQs, the side mirrors would have to be replaced with ones that will fold in.

In any case, good luck. It's a blast to drive.

(I suspect the 65,000 figure to get one to Turkey was in USD. Not likely it would be quoted in Euros until Turkey is a member. Either way, that's a lot of money.)

Oh my...in the UK they really blast you with those taxes (10 % right off the bat + 17.5 % VAT), don't they ?

I don't know if it can help, but I know of a dealership, Herb Chambers Ford in Braintree, MA, that sells cars to european clients and arranges shipment via close container (on a ship) to the destination port indicated by the buyer. If I remember well, it would add 3'000 dollars to the cost of the car (so MSRP + 3'000 dollars)...
When I went there to check the availability of GT's in January, a salesman told me they had sold and shipped 3 cars to Europe (1 to Iceland and 2 to Switzerland)...

Default Exporting Vehicles

I have exported vehicles to Europe, Aussy Land, South America and Russia.

The import duty would be calculated at time of order. Shipping wouldn't be more than $5500 as that's the cost of getting a container overseas. You could shave some bucks off by using a car ship...but it's less secure. If you do a "Google" you should be able to find your English Customs site and the attendant cost of HM's tax. I would think you might have some local taxes to deal with...and I would not know what those are. The $65K figure doesn't sound kosher to me, but there are some pretty stiff charges in parts of the world. I do know that if your question was about importation into India....I wouldn't be responding at all. It's just too complex to consider.

Give me a hollar if you wish me to pursue this for you! Mother was born in Solihull and my Uncle worked at the Rover Plant...low these many years ago!

Thanks guys for help on that . I might check some things out and go futher. One thing also i am bothered about is repairs and parts if that would be a major problem and i imagine it would cost quite a lot.

Should be taking delivery of my 05 GT next week here in the UK (just waiting for it to be registered.)

Importing a decent spec GT by yourself should cost between £22-£25k. This will include shipping, duties, VAT, as well as the dreaded SVA test.

Using a specialist that will do everything for you will probably add another £3k.

I used a specialist, and it cost £26k for the following spec:

Black/Black leather
5 speed manual
Interior upgrade package
Shaker 1000
M/C wheels
Active anti theft
3yr Warranty (not Ford)

Apparantly the Ford warranty is not valid due to the car not being an official import, but i have spoke to a dealer who WILL service and maintain it.

Yes, the mirrors are a problem because they don't fold back, but they WILL pass the test as they are (mine did!).Other things to look out for regarding the SVA test are:

Make sure the company doing the conversion knows what they are doing. Apparantly the 05 Mustang uses electronic modules which control each light individually and if not carried out correctly with the right equipment, can cause major problems later. Some cars that have not been converted properly may appear to be ok at first, but eventually the computer gets "confused" and shuts down. There have been instances where the cruise control has stuck on causing several accidents!!!

I have also seen some horrible rear light additions or conversions, from cutting the rear bumper,to unsightly modifications to the rear light clusters.Make sure you discuss what you want before they attack the car.

If you want any further info, send me a message i will see if i can be of any help.

cheers
