GT Custom Front Plate Bracket

Hi! Just wanted to show ya'll the front license plate bracket I designed for my GT vert so I wouldn't have to drill holes in the front of the bumper. After several attempts (failures I should say

) I finally came up with a prototype design that actually works by modifying an old front plate bracket from my 87 GT.
(See Pics) It is attached by slipping the notched aluminum anchors between the bumper body and the lower trim. I drilled through the black trim from underneath (where it is not seen), through the aluminum, and through the other side of the bumper cover. I then used original style Ford wide-head screws to secure the two anchors. The double-sided 3M moulding tape holds it in place on the face of the bumper, and the aluminum support keeps it from moving and provides additional support. Even if the tape fails, the aluminum bracket will keep the plate on the car. I also made sure the front Bra would still fit before finalizing the design.
Let me know what ya think. I already have plans to modify how I attach it to keep from drilling any visible holes. Oh, and I finally got my new CRZN GT plates yesterday!

It is amazing what we can do when we have something important to accomplish. No holes in this guys ( 2k5GTC ) bumper and it looks great !!!! Well done !!!!! and how long until you have them available for sale? We have a front plate requirement in my state as well but none of my cars have them. I'm sure its just a matter of time before I am stopped. They look shi##y on the Cobra and I'm not drilling holes in the 05GT. I could put it on the Explorer but why be inconsistent. Its been five years on the Exp. I wonder if on the dash in the front windshield will satisfy the requirement?

What the heck is the problem with putting two holes in the bumper cover? If your in a state that requires front plates the freakin holes are going to be covered up anyway. While I'll agree that the car looks better without a front plate, in states that require them all your doing is giving the police another reason to pull you over. When you get pulled over for doing something goofy they'll right you a no front plate ticket along with whatever else. I mean c'mon guys its a CAR (albeit a very nice car) its still just a car!!! What's gonna happen when you get a scratch or a rock chip? hysteria?

There is currently a bill before the Texas Legislature to delete the front plate requirement. If it passes, who wants two big holes in the front bumper! Not me. As for chips... DONT EVEN SAY THAT!!!!

Thanks for the comments sltwtr. I worked long and hard in my 100 degree garage crawling under the car trying to figure it out.

I used to have the front plate in my windshield for years in my 87 GT before I finally got a new bumper cover for it.

Cops didn't seem to mind.

a mechaninc where i work told me it had already passed several weeks ago, however u had to get new plates, they had to be dated after the law passed. when u do get new plates u request only one. at least thats what i heard and i seem to be seeing alot of cars with no front plate lately at kwik kar (my job)

Cool. Wish i seen that b4 i put mine on. We never needed front plates for many years, now they're back (i guess cops were getting neck cramps). maybe they'll go away again and i'll be stuck with holes in the bumper.

I tried researching the bill again this morning on the oh-so-hard-to-use Texas Legislature site. All I was able to find was the revised committee version now referred to as CSHB3540. Still don't know if it is law. At the moment, the Tx lawmakers are in their second special session trying to figure out how to tax us more for school finance.
