Default Mod Question

Ok, I understand the want/need for more power arrr arrr arrr, but why all the lowering, suspension changes? have you all who have made these mods drove the mustang first? is it taken for granted that the stock suspension sucks or what?, is lowering just for looks? do these mods help that much? Or are these for mainly for track driving?

Thanks.

I think this car is awesome just left stock. Unlike alot of others on this site, I plan on very few mods. I've spent big bucks in the past making "Improvements" that in the end just were not worth it. Other than a few tweaks to personalize the car, I am not going too mess with perfection!

likewise here...I worry about tearing up the frontend as it is, let alone lowered. I'd rather spend the money on:

1) filling quarter glass / repainting roof (love the fastback look)
2) possibly wider tires- at least in the rear (just like wide tires...)
3) possibly deeper dished (at least 'deeper dished looking') wheels- required offset limits choices here...

surely some out there like the low, in the weeds look as much as I like the stuff I mentioned above...to each his own. All comes down to personal preference, I think though its 90% looks based.
Really doubt many of us will rack up 10,000 miles a year or more at a dragstrip or road course, and if we drove hard enough on the street to justify the mods, we'd be walking/no license...

There is a huge diff in handeling! No Mustang has been great on the road and the S197 is an improvement but not near what I want!

I want to feel the road, feel the grip or it slipping. Could not trust nor feel where she was going with the mushy stock suspension, even worse (Ithink) was those wheelbarrol tires they put on!

There is a reason Euro and Rice Racers make fun of The Stangs, 'well it's fast straight ahead' see you on the twisties' 'just don't turn'... it used to be the same for the Vette but look at their handeling package now, wheels, suspension, even brakes! Grant it it's twice the price but not so many make fun of it not turning and stopping anymmore!

I'd say the springs and wheels for me was about 50% handling, 25% feel and 25% looks... The Anti-Roll kit was 100% handling and feel and oh so much worth it, I can't even explain, you're fast, very fast in a sharp turn, there is no buckling, no giving, the first thing that starts giving is the rear wheels, just a sqeek... you know you're borderline, you know it will stay there becaus the wheels WILL NOT caster, drive on the edge, all four are planted (less the side/forward squeeling from brut force)! Nice!

I used to drive a M3 before this and was just not used to hang over the ditch with the car while the wheels was on the road... not cool!

(Two 05 GT owners have driven my car and gone straight to a computer to shop for suspension parts!)

Thanks guys, I think it would be cool if you could open up a little business just to these mods.

kj_cinci,tatloon have me convinced.

I am not a gearhead, so I have to decode the mods listed there and save up some cash. Then I will start on power stuff. My poor poor wallet.

Yea... it's not cheap... I'm out lotsa money, especially if I would have paid full price for all my stuff, installs and tunes/dyno-runs... Could almost get another GT at X-plan... Don't tell my wife!

There is many lists for how/when to mod... I think I'd go for a tuner first, then a CAI followed by suspension parts, Pro Springs, Anti-Roll Kit... maybe try to combine that install with wheels for the free alignement and maybe a discount on the parts install... lotsa 'monkey' though...
