We still need to fill 3 more pages to catch up to the "Hate those Airbag warning decals?" thread
You made a couple of mistakes in your statement.
1)The volume of air required to fill the cylinders is actually fixed since the engine displacement, valve lift and duration is identical in both cases. It's only the density of the air that would change if it's an intake temperature issue we're discussing.
2)You said "through your smaller, rougher, and hotter intake.......in less velocity"
If the intake is smaller the velocity would be greater since the volume of air the engine requires is the same.
3) looking at the picture of the filter on his website the filter looks smaller than the C&L.
It defineitly has less filter element if you compare the amount of pleats in each filter.
His shield has no bottom to it so his filter is less protected.
1. Hence the TUNERS CAI... I have said (I think here) that it is the ultimate for future mods (heads, pistons, bore, block), you'll get the air there... If the intake volume is all engine volume related, and allready maxed out by the smaller C&L, why do you have headers?
2. I was talking about the restriction from a rougher interior of the system, creating a turbulence for more restriction also in other parts, other than around the walls) of the intake system.
3. And where to hot air go? What do cool air do? You want the cooler air from below the engine to come up, the more exposed filer area straight down the better!
Vynle; Me too was thinking about a full system but then I saw what the C&L Racer did and it would have been kinda the same... But how would it be with a system inkluding the TB? All in one piece, no rubber, no clamps (other than holding the filter...

The GT ENGINE COMPARTMENT IS AN OVEN IN THE SUMMER MONTHS.
There is no arguing this. You're going to be in traffic and most of the time NOT using WOT throttle positions. ALL systems are going pass some intake temp increases, but the plastic will COOL much quicker when you leave the traffic and punch it up for a workout. The cooling edge here wil show up.
Here's my data for a c&L aluminum intake from last summer:
Sunny day, 12 noon, 82 F ambient, drove the car for one hour, parked it on a blacktop driveway in direct sunlight, shut off the engine with the hood closed for 1/2 hour, connected the Predator and started the engine, air inlet temperature reading was 117 F, AIT dropped to 84 F after driving on an open road for approx. 1/2 mile at no greater than 40 mph and no greater than 2000 rpm, AIT dropped to ambient(82 F) after driving on open road for another 1/2 mile, started driving in stop-and-go traffic, AIT increased to 90-100 F(depending on the length of the stop), AIT decreased to almost ambient in less than 1/4 mile at 35 mph and less than 2000 rpm after returning to an open road.
If you post your data, then we can get a glean for how "plastic will COOL much quicker when you leave the traffic and punch it up for a workout."
k.j. how bout you and i get together and shot ideas arround . were wadeing into some tepid waters and now need to shut the doors on our competition,to shield them from our ideas.lol. vynle. p.s. chrome always does look good in the engine bay!!no denying that!!
Someone on one of the forums did the same thing for a few different systems a couple years ago, including my old system, but I couldn't locate the thread.
I'd love to see testing like this.

I'll assume you are using an X-cal I or II. Can it not datalog Intake Air Temperature?

When writing a message look above you will see a little globe of the earth with a symbol which looks like the figure 8 on its side. it's self explanitory.

Sweet job on those covers!
I have a buddy that owns a metal polishing business and I sent it up to him. He did a dang good job on it. He does tons of car and motorcycle parts. Mirror finish ( that you can't really tell from the picture ). I considered polishing the valve covers too, but after talking to him about how long the polish would hold up on magnesium, I oped against it and had them powder coated aluminum chrome instead.
And just to let everyone know.... I am hurt that this is a 5 page debate on CAIs yet no one has commented on the fact that I use parts from two different companies to make up my CAI

I did notice it but I've already seen others do it. Is yours one of the later model Steeda CAI units which are 90mm?
I'm thinking of doing the same since all my other mods are full Steeda and I'm doing the full Steeda body and wheel mods over the winter.

I kinda wish it was, but it is not. I spoke with Steeda about upgrading to the 90mm MAF. They told me I could do it for $110 if I remember right. Just never got around to it.
I went with the setup I have because of SHM's NA pony. Saw they were using it back when he first posted the 365hp car on his web site. Called and talked to them about why the did what they did with that perticular combo, and it all sounded reasonable. So I followed suit. Can't say that it was a bad choice, put me over 300rwhp with a descent tune.

luv the polishing you guys hav done. whats the best way to do this. and yes i did notice your steeda filter on your c&l intake tube but i was blinded by that supershiny thing and had to rest my eyes and buy the time i could see again i had forgotten to comment. oh so sorry!! vynle.
