The old car my wife has been driving has 247,000 miles on it, and we needed to replace it. Well, I finally convinced my wife to get a Mustang, so now we have 2 Mustangs(I guess the screen name 2horseowner is already taken!). The main objections my wife had against the Mustang was that it was too loud and powerful, and it was a cop magnet(mine's a V8). After she heard the V6 exhaust and drove it, she decided that it was just right for her. Although she was still very worried about attracting too much attention from law enforcement, and that she would have to watch her speed all the time. I told her, no, no, the cops can see that it's a V6, it's a convertible, you don't have the Shelby Stripes like I do, yours isn't red it's dark blue, etc. Well boy was I wrong! We just picked up the Vista Blue Convertible Premium with the Pony Package from the dealer tonight, and my wife followed me home with me driving my Mustang. Well, she didn't know it at the time, but a police cruiser also followed us home, for almost 5 miles of small town roads! AARGH!! We live in such a small town, we don't even have a stop light, and we have to share police with another small town. I had open road in front of me, with no traffic and I really wanted to open it up. But as I looked in the rearview mirror to make sure my wife was still back there, I decided against it, and drove the speed limit until our town turn-off, Which I never do! As I was turning off, I noticed the police cruiser behind my wife, and I was horrified! To top it off, I accidently left my proof of insurance for my Mustang at home, cause we had to show it to test drive some other car that my wife did not buy(hooray!) and I left it on the bedside table! So I'm freaking out of course, and driving UNDER the speed limit at this point, which by the way was 35mph, and then 30mph, and then closer to our house 25mph! No, it's not even a school zone. So when we get home, I jump out and do my best to console my wife, and tell her it was just a coincidence that a cop followed us all the way home the first time she drove her Mustang(he turned off at the last possible moment), and that this hasn't happened since I drove in Jersey, blah, blah, blah. I'm not sure if it worked on her, but we think that when the cop saw 2 Mustangs driving together late at night, he suspected we were going to race. So if she ever does get a speeding ticket, it will still be my fault! Well at least we have 2 great Mustangs, and not some import she was first eyeing! Long live American Muscle!:thumbsup

I have to hand it to you duel '05 Mustang owners. I break my back just keeping my one Pony pristine, I can't imagine having to do it twice as often. My wife drives the 2002 Nissan Xterra. Even though I like to make it look good and all, I don't put even half the effort I do when I clean the Stang.
As far as being a cop magnet, I must be the luckiest S.O.B on the planet (hitting my knuckles on my wooden desk as I write this) because in the 12 months I've owned this bright yellow, scream machine I have only been pulled over once and that was for squeezing through a pink light(which the cop never filed, thank you very much!) And believe me, the posted speed limit to me is only a suggestion. I think I've committed a felony almost everyday I've driven this car.

My original choice was redfire, but the only ticket I ever got was in that red 82 mustang of mine (Yes I have been clean since)so I changed to tungsten grey.
One questions, why do you need your proof of insurance to test drive a car? that is supposed to be under the dealers insurance. I never was required to have my own proof of insurance to test drive a car. The dealer only made a copy of my license.

It was the Mazda dealer that wanted proof of insurance, when we drove without him. The Ford guy didn't even make a copy of my license for our test drive, he just started it up, and let us take off! It was all pretty surreal, as when we went back to the dealer last night so I could take a test drive in the actual car we were getting, and they ended up letting us have the car, and said we could send them the check from our financing company later! They did take down some financial info from us and we signed promissary note papers, but we drove away with no money down, and no money to them at that time. You see, we are from NY, so when you buy a car there, you don't get it until your check clears the bank. So we were pretty surprised. I guess we shouldn't have been, as it takes 3 lawyers to close on a house in NY, and zero in Washington state! Cool!:thumbsup

Welcome to the club. I have a coupe and a vert as well. Since I'm an old fart I don't attract too much cop attention. I've been warned to slow down by loudspeaker on the freeway once and I saw the local cops pointing and chuckling at my plate while they were following me but (knocking wood) no tickets yet. Both of mine are red so I'm pushing the limit. I made up the screen name last year but actually I'm 2horsepaymentbook owner

When I had my 68 Fast Back, I was 20 something. I couldn't pull out of the driveway without getting pulled over! My foot was exceptionally heavy for my age. I'm now 49 and try to keep it under or at the speed limit. My wife was not especially happy when I got the stang. However, we've been together since 1980 so she is accustomed to my toys by now. I try to make sure I don't bring home any tickets and get an "I told you so" about the cops and go fast factors. I've only had it up to 110 so far and am quite happy with the performance.
It's hard not to get into it every now and then. Good luck with the cops. They are probably jealous!!

I was pulled over the thursday after purchasing my 06 GT. The wife and I was
driving to Ohio for her grandfathers burial, when we was just outside of Cleveland I was doing 75 in a 65 state police hit me with Lazer(he was hiding behind a concrete barrier). Well I had Tennesse temp plate in the back window. Now in TN
that is your registation till you get on in the mail. I showed the trooper the insurrance but kept insisting that I produce the registration. eventually I convenced him of the above. He let me go saying, " that 65 is 65 in Ohio- Have a nice day"...

I remember back in 02 I went with my dad to pick up his Porsche and we were driving around downtown and there were 2 cops just following us for like 15min just making sure we didn't do anything stupid lol, it was funny.
I haven't yet been pulled over in the new GT *knock on wood* but I've definitely done a thing or two that would have got me pulled over had there been a cop around, no doubt.

I am fairly conservative as far as speed goes. Las Vegas is funny though. 10 to 15 over the limit is pretty much the norm around here. Heck I see people every day doing at least twice the limit. I have followed a metro cop doing 15 over the limit just recently. But you can get busted on certian streets. I got nailed five years ago when I thought I was on a 45 street, but I was on a 25 street. Problem though, I was doing 53, yikes that cost me! But that was before the Stang. I am a lot more careful with it in town.
welcome to the 2 horse owners club iplaydat So far the wife has been doin a fine job keeping her car clean she is a clean freak also

I've been lucky so far, I've had my car since Dec 04. The cops don't even look at me, I only worry about the tinted windows. I do speed most of the time and go fast around someone thats going to slow for me, like today. Maybe it's the color of my car, Satin Silver?
Guess my age keeps me cool with the cops.
I drive my Stang mostly on weekends.
I have a little bit of a lead foot & like a little red light running when conditions allow.
4 tickets 1 warning later, i can confirm its a magnet, and i dont even have stripes.. yet haha
i've had a cop follow me from my neighborhood for 20 minute ride to my friends house and that was just in the 02 mustang gt, and to even test that theory i kept switchin lanes every while or so and he would switch over into my lane and just follow behind me.
