Yes, its the LS4 and its basically a 5.3 liter LS1 based motor for front wheel drive applications. Yes, GM likes to build front wheel drive cars that have a decent amount of power. I dont think these cars come in manual, but i hear they are pretty quick for what they have. Maybe if they were smart, they would make them rear wheel drive and use the LS2. They did something right with the trailblazer SS, they are using the LS2 and is rear wheel drive, but the jeep SRT8 will kill it! (actually, it might give your mustang a run)

I actually traded in a 01 Monte SS Pace car for my 06 GT. I was considering the new 06 SS but they screwed up the design of the nose & tail of the car. It drives pretty well, but it has really REALLY bad torque steer being a FWD car. I really wish GM would of put it back on a RWD platform but that's asking them to do something right for a change. I loved my 01 but the new 06's the styling sucks in my opinion. Good motor but it also has the displacement technology and I'm not sure how that's going to hold up in the long run (uses 8 cly when needed otherwise uses 4).
I'm a big 70-71 monte carlo fan, i love the lines of the car! GM really needs to get their head out of their ass! They did good with the Impala SS B bodies with LT1s and rear drive, but why dont they make something similar. The only car that comes close is the Caddys, and to get a performance caddy, you need to spend 50K. If GM makes a Impala SS or Monte SS or Malibu SS with 300 HP and REAR DRIVE, they will sell! for sure! of course, i the stylin has to be to par too

I agree with the styling /rwd...someone at work has a newer montecarlo, and I cant help it, but to me it looks like a inflatable toy...I think cars need some real corners/creases to make them distinctive, not just 'hints' of lines...
but its all subjective- I'm sure theres montecarlo owners that think the mustang is butt ugly too.
more exciting to me than the new camaro(not bad) was a blurb that they are also going to release a 66-67 fastback looking impala at the same time- RWD. Now to me, thats BIG news- Always loved the fullsized fastbacks- all of them(well maybe not the AMC Marlin...)
I just hope Ford wakes up and reskins the Crown Vic first...something anywhere in the 66-68 galaxie-ish or 70-72 torino-ish look would probably sell very well, and revive one of their bread and butter products, desperately needing a facelift. Even if they leave it a 4 door with the kinda hidden rear doors likr the r/t prototype fron 5-6 years ago, or the rx8...that could work.

Here is a pic of my white 67'Marlin(one of 1200).It was the rarest car I ever owned. It did run really good after sitting under a tree for 12 years. The marina blue 66'Impala SS w/327 4spd. was the my first attempt at restoration back in85'.Poco
The other was a HEMI powered Marlin run back in the day.
