Default Hard wiring radar detector

I know I posted this before, but cannot find it using the search, so I apologize.

I am looking to hard wire my rd. Has anyone done this? CAn you provide details, tips, etc. I have the hard wire kit from the manufacturer, but dont knwo where to splice into, or if there is a better option to go right to the fuse box.

Thanks in advance.

I hard wired my radar detector in my car and love it. The power cord that came with the detector is coiled so I purchased a straight cord from the manufacturer. I also purchased a power outlet from WalMart. I hooked the power outlet to the upper power outlet using the inline wire splicing gizmos. I ran the RD power cord up under the dash and out of the top of the dash throught the center vents at the base of the windshield.

Good luck!
Don

After I slept on this, I now realize that I hooked up the power to the radio power source. If I remember correctly, the power outlets in the car are "hot" all of the time. The radio source is not. Its "switched".

I appologize for any confusion.

Ford did me a favor and wired my Valentine 1 when I purchased their optional auto-dimming/Homelink rear view mirror and had them install it. I wired the Valentine 1 in my old car, but I'm glad I had professional do on the GT.
