Default First Time at the Drags...not happy

so last day/night me and some buddies went to a track event. my first run with the car i cut a 14.0@100....i wasnt too happy but i knew i could do better....now im not a bad driver by any means. ive been drag racing for a few years now and i know how to drive my car.....i ran about 5 times and couldnt get the car in the 13's at all. the only mod i have is SLP LM's and a drop. my trap speeds and times kept gettin worse and worse. it was about 90 degrees out with 100% humidity. all the others that i had talked to have only been running about 3 tenths slower. but even still a 13.7 is not a good time for this car. anyone have the same problem? my 60 fts were 2.2's which i feel is very high.. but i felt as tho my launches were real good. any suggestions?

Dont feel bad, my best time is 13.9 with 20 inch wheels. I think i can post .5 better with smaller lighter wheels w/drag radials. 14.0 is pretty good for just exhaust, plus the heat and humidity didnt help either. good run....ya, my 60ft times were 1.9

thats what you bought...a 14.0 sec car...didn't you do any research??..why would you expect more??..more can easily be had with inexpensive mods, but you can't be dissappointed with your current times..just as advertised!

Actually I think your times are right on the money. A totally stock GT runs right at or just under 14 seconds in that type of heat and humidity. I race in Seattle where the temps rarely get that high and my stock setup ran 13.8 at best. If you car is lowered that will not help your ETs as there is less opportunity for a weight shift at launch go get the weight onto the back wheels. If you were to get a cold air intake, such as the C&L along with a canned tune made for your intake you'd be running 13.5, assuming it was less than 90 degrees.

2.2 second 60 foot times are also pretty typical on the stock tires, especially on a lowered car. I could rarely get into the 2.1 range until I got some real drag tires. Then you'll be pulling 1.8 60 foot times, with a TRUE drag tire like Mickey Thompsons.

Don't be discouraged. I started right where you are now I'm running consistant high 11s. Every little performance mods adds up. Nitrous adds up REAL fast.

my car is more than capable of a 13.4 pass.....i did NOT purchase a 14 sec car. i purchased a mid-low 13 sec car. i was reading a post the other day of someone making a 13.0 @ 105 in stock form. my friends SRT-4 traps at around 105 and i hang with him on the highway just fine. door to door. car and driver tested the car at 13.5@103

Your stock GT is NOT capable of 13.4 anytime, anywhere, and any wager you care to make I'll give you 3:1. You did purchase a 14 second car. You did NOT purchase a mid 13 second car. I'm at the track twice a week and have been since I purchased my GT 20 months and 53,000 miles ago. I know extremely well what these cars do. Drag strips are NOT freeways, did you start from a standing stop in the freeway? PTLM4LIFE already asked this but I'll ask again; did you do ANY research? Obviously not.

NOBODY EVER has made a 13.0 second pass in a stock S197. Ever. You've either been lied to or you're lying to yourself.

Maybe you should trade it in for an SRT-4, sounds like you'd be happier.

Welcom to reality.

Oh, and by the way, the professional driver at Car and Driver could only get 13.8 out of it (exactly what I said in a previous post on this thread), and that was not in 90 degree, 100 percent humidity air.

13.0, no way. I have, however, turned a 13.54 with a 2.2 60ft. I am running on the Gulf Coast, maybe 100 ft above sea level and it was about 55 degrees and dry. This is in stock trim.

lol all this hostility..

I know R&T ran a 13.8 and I read 13.5 from either MT or C&D can't remember which, in that same test they recorded a 4.9 0-60 time. Pretty impressive. But that doesn't mean you are going to be running 13.5's all day long either. A 13.7 isn't impossble. However, with that kind of temp and humidity it prob isn't too likely.

Don't get all upset though if you can't run a sub 14, keep trying.

Turning off traction control makes a big difference.

Temp and humidity make a big difference, as does elevation and air pressure. A run on a sunny day will be a little faster than a run on a cloudy [low pressure] day. What if you put together the perfect day at the track? 13.8? 13.5?

Come to Denver and run up at Bandimere's @ a mile high in altitude. You'd be so lucky to run a 14.0 in stock trim up here.Time for some T/A dag radials, maybe they would help on the launch.

Hey Jetblack...ley us know how the SCT-2 works out for you.

their is no need to be an asshole about things. the car is faster than 14 seconds flat. im 92ft above sea level and ive seen stockers run mid 13s. i may have misread that post about 13.0@105...ill see if i can find it. i frequent this site and have helped and been helped by many. i was just looking for some other times and some advice. everywhere that i have read have been in the 13's in stock form. 05SilverBullit ran 13.54....he was totally stock. you have so far been proven wrong that the car is a 14 sec car.
