Hello,
Has anyone else bought and installed the new 2005-2006 Edelbrock strut tower brace. I was going to install mine, but now I have to wait until the weekend and go to my father's house to do the work. I have never had to drill into a firewall before.
Any help would be appricatied.
Owww, drill into the firewall, haven't heard that needing to be done before. I just purchased a strut brace from Strange Development, new product they came out with, made of aircraft aluminum alloy, light but strong. Mine fit perfectly even over the plenum cover with no drilling, just attached to the strut bolts on each side, torqued to 25 lbs and all done. Personally, I'd send it back for a refund if drilling into the car is required, that just ain't right..
Eldelbrock also did this on the 3rd and 4th gen camaros. It Ties the strut towers to the chassis of the car. They in essence do make a stiffer set up than the regular ones.
I didn't like the Idea of drilling into my firewall either, but I did and it worked out ok (in my 95 Z)

Funny that you should ask...I just installed mine on sunday. I bought the Edelbrock one because I think it will do a better job than the normal tower to tower braces that everyone else sells. The fox body braces are tied into the firewall and they work very well. I think the front end will still move around if you don't tie it into the firewall. It took a little while to install because you have to remove the cowl panels and I removed the wiper linkage too for more room. When you fit the brace up to mark the holes try to push the brace down as far as you can so the support bracket in the cowl sits level. You will see what I mean when you test fit it on the car. If you have the brace too high it will tilt the bracket up and it will not sit flush on the pinch weld at the windshield. The hard part is getting in there to drill because the holes are behind the intake. Center punch them from the engine side of the firewall then drill them from the windshield side. When you are done check the clearance between the intake and the bar. If you need more room loosen the bolt where the bar attaches to the shock tower backets and pry it upwards then tighten the bolts. I can notice a slightly stiffer feel to the front end now. The 05's are alot stiffer than the older cars so it is not as much of a difference.
Thanks to you KILLER BIRD and the others who responded. I was just going to ask the dealship to install it since I was told the almighty statement of "If you put any performance parts on it will void the warrenty. But, if you have us or another Ford dealership install it then it will be coved by the warrenty you will have". Well,
I will ask, if not then I will do it myself.
They are going to replace the driver side latch behind my seat. It was broken off by some idiot who was putting tint on my windows.

On the 05/06 mustangs the firewall is not a structural member and no benefit is had by bracing it to the shock towers as per Ford and several other aftermarket companies including Steeda...
