Default Gears - How do they improve or hurt your Ride?

I am interested in putting in a gear in my GT and I would love to hear from those who have done so about how it has helped and/or hurt your ride. From what I have heard they give you a nice boost of the line but overall do they really make the GT that much faster? And if so how much? How do they affect your overall MPG? How about RPM's, are they increased overall? For instance if at 75 MPH I am doing 2600 RPM's (stock) will this still be the case with a 3:73, 4:10, or 4:30? And if not how will it be affected?

Thanks,
Daniel

Gears are something mostly a drag race type of person would do fist. Its a better launch off the line and bigger punch if you have to down shift.

Cons: Worse gas milage
Pro's.. Alot more fun Everyone I know who has done with 373 wish they had put 4.10's in there, but htere mostly the guys with the 20 in wheels.

Add 200 RPMS per gear.
Stock: 2600 rpm
373: 2800 rpm
4.10 3000 rpm

+1, I have the 3:73's and after riding in my friends car with 4:10's, I wish I did get the 4:10's.

Thanks for the info. I think I am going to go with 4:10 ratio. My only concern is I am considering a supercharger within the next year and I seem to remember that with forced induction it may not be a good idea to do any change at all. I believe this is due to running through the gears to quickly and not taking advantage of boost. Also if I do go ahead and go with the 4:10 do you think a good estimate of loss of MPG is about 4 on the highway?

4.10s have certainly knocked me down a few mpg. Great off the line but I always feel like I'm looking for another gear when I'm cruising. Still, wouldn't go back to the 3.55s.

Could not of said it better. I had the 4:10 frpp installed last week. In 5th it feels like your in 4th, but for 600.00 parts and labor it rocks.

I average about 18 MPG. The lowest I've seen in my car was 16 MPG but I was riding it pretty hard.
