Default My semi-self-made armrest

I like the new mustang's interior, but the arm rest was not that comfortable. I grabbed a cution nobody uses in the house, and took off the leather. That was my part. I removed the arm rest with a skrew driver (pretty simple), took it to a shop specializing in car embroidery, made them put a soft slim sponge over the arm rest and staple the black leather on it.
Results?
Incredibly soft and comfortable, can be cleaned with the same leather cleaner I use for the seats, and looks much better.
Cost?
$3.00 + the 'unused' cution. You might wanna give it a try ;-)

Fantastic idea... Much easier on the elbows I would guess. If you don't mind, what did the shop charge for doing this?

I mentioned, $3.00, and I could have bargained too, but it was too cheap to bargain, plus i was happy with the results... go for it, adds some hp too :P

I thought the $3 was just for the foam! Great deal.

This looks great. One important question before I get this done. With the higher height of the arm rest, does this interfere or offset your hand position for shifting? I would think your arm would be too high. Assuming you have a standard. Thanks. Corvette after market people make this in all colors, but when I bought one the arm rest was much higher and made it uncomfortable to shift.

not at all, the sponge material is faily slim and once you rest your arm/elbow on it it sinks.

Now I wish the cution was beige to go with the interior, but black is cool enough

Next I think I'm gonna do the same thing with the black plastic around the gear and cup holders. It couldn't look more factory.

edit: do make sure that the sponge is light, not too fat, and easy to press.

Hey has anyone ordered the leather armrest cover from www.redlinegoods.com ?.. They look pretty good because you can order them in any colour and get different colour piping as well as stitching, I want to order one in black with red stitching. I'm just wondering if they stay in place because it says they are held with elastics.. it would really suck if they move all over the place and aren't secure. Opinions?

Those look good, but don't feel different, it's just leather on plastic... and did I read $60? totally not worth it.

All you need to do is go to a fabic shop or arts and crafts place and buy a piece of leather and some pad. Go to the thift shop and pick up a pair of leather pants and you are set.

Sweet idea. Deffinitly not bad for the price of $3 and a old cushion.

Thanks for showing this site. After seeing the black arm rest with the red stitching, I just brought my arm rest to an upholstery shop to duplicate. He is doing it with a low profile foam so it does not look balooned out and wont affect driving position or shifting.

What a great idea. Can't wait for my 07 to arrive. This takes the place of the Flowmasters as my first mod.
