Haven't lined up against any Ferraris, I'm completely stock anyway. Yesterday a BMW M Coupe took me out from the lights .. those things are pretty damn fast though, he had me by about half a car length to 150kph or so.

No Ferari's, but I did come up on a Gallardo Spyder about a week ago. I hung with him til I hit third and he was still in second. Oh well, life goes on.

IMHO, the only thing that gives Lambo's, Ferrari's, and porsche's their popularity is that they are fast as shi* and the high price makes them rare and exclusive...but when you get a 25k mustang with < $10,000 in mods that can beat the exotics..I say those names don't mean a whole lot.
my opinion...Even though he lost...he still lost.
Nice kills!

I disagree, what makes exotics special is not speed alone or price. A Ferrari 360 Spider for example is probably one of the nicest car designs I have ever seen. Also, nothing, as great as American V8's are, sounds like a high-revving Ferrari V8 at 8500 rpm, the Ferrari 355 is one of the best exhaust notes I have ever heard. Also, I have never driven a Ferrari but I can imagine that it would be quite the experience, given the amazing handling capabilities and the speed combined. I took a 10min ride in a 360 Spider in march and it was unreal, hard to describe. For me Ferrari is just the ultimate machine and it isn't because its super-expensive or super-fast, its more than a car.
The closest I've come to driving an exotic would have to be driving my dads Porsche C4S. It has aftermarket springs, modded exhaust, and 19 inch Champion wheels. Off the line I think I might be able to edge it out in my GT with a good launch but after driving it for a couple hours then getting back into the Mustang you immediately realize that speed isn't everything. With the Porsche you feel completely connected with the road and feel every bump through the seat and steering wheel. Not to mention, the sound of the thing is indescribible especially through tunnels. The Mustang feels more like a family sedan than a sports car after driving the Porsche. Now I'm not 'hating' on the Mustang, I love my car, I'm just trying to establish the fact that Porsches/Ferraris/Lamborghinis are not ALL about speed. Sorry for the rant.

Well, I'll disagree with you again...hehe. There's no denying their beauty...but I think that is subjective. The speed of these exotics and price are cold hard facts and numbers which I still believe make them rare and exclusive. Not everyone likes the way they look(I love them very much, but that's besies my point).
But Ferrari, Porsche, and Lambo, have made a name for themselves. I think a large part of why you couldn't describe the feeling of sitting in an exotic like that was because your brain was telling you..."HEY you're sitting in an exotic and exclusive car, you should be WOWed!"
I didn't think Aston Martins were that great...then I saw one in person and I was giddy and so excited. Why? Probably cuz I never see them and I love cars. I dunno...maybe a pshycologist might be better at assesing why these cars get the tag "Exotic".
I'm terrible at arguing my point, which is why I never went to law school

I was merely disagreeing with your original point about the only reason these cars are special is because they are 'fast as sh*t and expensive as hell'. My point was that that is not the ONLY reason why they are so special. They are special because whether or not someone likes the design is besides the point that they stand out from the crowd, and that makes them exotic. Some don't like Lamborghini and would argue that they are a little over the top, with the scissor doors and all, but they are still different than anything else on the road and that makes them special and exotic, along with the fact that they are fast and expensive.
I will admit that part of the 'wow' factor of my short ride in the Ferrari was the mere fact that it was a Ferrari. But it was also because I truly think it is one of the most beautiful cars in the world, and the sound of the thing is just astounding. The overall experience was like no other car I have been in. When the engine is started up you immediately feel the vibration of it through the seat and it throws you into the seat under acceleration, especially past 4000 rpm or so. And it's just the feeling you get when you stop at a light and EVERYONE just stops and stares at the car. These are the things that make it exotic, yes its the speed, yes its the price, but its also so many other factors that just aren't present in other cars.. ie the handling, the road feel, the design, the sound, the ability to literally have an audience at a stop light. It's all about passion with these cars, and that is what makes them special.
It's hard to describe to someone WHY you feel so passionate about something, some ppl just don't get it. I have always been infatuated with Ferrari, and not just because its Ferrari but because there is something special about them that is hard to describe and I don't get that feeling with any other car, not Porsche, not Lamborghini. Sure all of those elements that I outlined add to the 'exotica' that is Ferrari (ie handling, speed, sound, design) but there is something else that adds to the allure that is hard to describe. I once read an article that descirbed Porsches as 'appliances for speed' meaning they are built to go fast, handle well, and that is pretty much it, they are lacking in 'passion'. Even the 'Ferraristi' would probably have a hard time explaining what it is that makes Ferraris so special but an expert explanation would definitely involve the words passion and emotion.

Yeah...I see your point...so I guess it's not really that I disagreed with you just I saw that more people saw them as speed demons and the styling of Ferrari is a bonus if you like the stlying....besides tha I too love Ferrari and wished to god I could afford one...but even if I took a second mortgage to get one, I could never afford to keep it.

Most guys in a Ferrari wouldn't even run it.They are high maint. cars and the owners are careful when they drive them. One guy in a Ferrari did challenge me in my JavelinSST a few years back off the line a few years back.My AMC 390 was pumping about 500 Ft Pds.of torque with 4:10 gearing. It was an easy kill off the line but I realize they have some serious top end speed.I wouldn't even go there unless I had a Ferrari myself.
