When I got my first car in the mid-70's, the "dork" cars were the AMC Gremlins and Pacers. ewwwww... haha.
My first car on the other hand wasn't too shabby... a 1970 Cougar, with a 351 Cleveland motor. This is what it looked like in 1977.

Heres mine...my Dad gave me his used 1973 AMC Matador when I was 16. The color was grasshopper green (That was the official AMC color.) I got my boyfriend (husband now) to paint it black, put airshocks on and took off the new exhaust and put a cherrybomb on.
It was a dork car, for sure, but the 304 could smoke 'em anyhow.
Ah, I remember the days... of cruisin' in the old '72 Olds Cutlass Supreme Station Wagon. Viking Blue with fake woodgrain (a.k.a. metal sidings)... moonroof.... could load up a ton of people in that car and a ton of our favorite beverages too!)
It was a piece...but, great memories!!

My first car was a 1961 two door hardtop Pontiac Catalina with a 389ci engine. My mods were rolled and pleated interior, chrome reverse wheels and painted Ford Aycalpoco Blue. Sold it in 1969 for $650. Wish I had it now.

Well, let's see, about 25 years ago myself and a buddy pitched in $25.00 a piece and bought this butt ugly Ford Pinto. We drove it around for about 3 weeks and it died.....we left it right there in the road.

"I closed my eyes, held my breath and then everything went black."
- Richard Petty - (About his 1988 Daytona accident)
1965 Chevrolet Corvair Monza with 4-speed and 140 HP engine (dual exhausts, 4-1-barrel carbs). That's not the worst of it - I repainted it "Big Bad Green" (AMC color) - yeah, that's right, lime green. It gets even worse - THEN I took a "Wiley Coyote" sticker and put one on each rear fender, a la, Plymouth Road Runner.
The finishing touch was when I painted flat black "anti-glare" panels on the "hood".
Many fine interior mods as well - Hurst T-Handle, black seat covers, 3-gauge cluster under the dash.
This is why my 05 Mustang is strictly stock...not really that good at "mods"...

Lol, werent those the cars you didnt have heat unless you were in motion?
2. 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger - sounds dorky, but it had a built 340 in it. Probably the fastest car I've ever owned.
Nothing dorky about those. They were 396 Chevelle killers.
Saw one of the factory 426 hemi ones for sale once for $1500, but didn't have the cash. Oh man!

Yep, keep it stock!

Well, a regular Dodge Dart was nothing special. I re-painted the car after I bought it and got rid of the stipe that went across the back of the car, so the only destinguishing mark was the unique hood these cars had. It was blue just like these - no vinyl top... should never had got rid of that car.
My first car was a 70's Yellow Pinto Wagon that had been the Flower Mound, TX Chief of Police car that the city was getting rid of. It was faded yellow but I repainted it the same color. I did customize it by painting the FORD script logo on the rear gate. I also added an overhead console and center console for the 8-track/cassette tape player with a 3 gauge cluster underneith it.
When I graduated HS, as a gift, my grandfather matched the funds I had in my savings account. $8000!!! The clutch went out in the Pinto so I purchased a black '81 Toyota Corolla which I had up until 3 years ago. It finally died with electrical problems and many many rusted through panels. It was a very dependable car especially when it was up north in the Milwaukee winters.
After that I got gramps 93 Escourt to go along with my 96 F-150 and '68 Mustang Vert that is in total tear down restoration shape right now.
In 05, I get rid of the Escourt and got Marcus the Black GT I am driving today. By far, the most fun car to date.
I still miss the Corolla. It lasted longer than 2 watches, 4 jobs and 5 girls.
