How about the Studebaker Lark (oops - showing my age ) or the old Edsels? |
When I was growing up, my whole family were Studebaker/Packard people. My Dad went to Fords when Stude went out of business. When I got my first car I decided on a '62 Galaxie, 2 door HT, 352, auto. He bought a new '66 7 Litre, 4 speed and I was hooked on Fords since then.
I've had 'em all, '67 Shelby GT 500, 7 Litre, '67 Fairlane that I put a '63 427 in, '72 Comet GT, '73 Torino GT with a 351 Cleveland that had 408 miles on it when it got built for drag strip only duty, '71 Torino GT/351 Cleveland/4 speed/shaker hood, '66 Mustang coupe with a Hi-Po 271 289, 429 Torino Ranchero, MANY more "vanilla" Fords and I bought/traded in the FE motors/cars/parts for years. Sold my last 427 about 8 years ago, and got back into Studebakers.
Now, I'm real happy with my "dork cars". My Lark and '50 bulletnose are my favorites. Since I know Fords like the back of my hand, I'm glad that I did get back into Studebakers. I was getting tired of the same, ol' "bellybutton", carbon copy rut that Fords are in, and GM cars almost make me gag when I see the hood open on ANY of them. Studebakers have MUCH more high performance potential, as evidenced by the Pure Stock Muscle Car Drags. In fact, Studebakers still race and hold a number of records in a number of high performance venues.
It's all in what a fella likes I guess. I do know that at any car gathering, I seem to get a LOT more people looking at my cars, asking questions, favorable comments, etc., than I ever did with ANY of my Fords. Don't get me wrong, if I didn't have a Studebaker to play with, I'd have a classic Ford, because knowing what I know about new Fords from my current work, (hell, ANY new car), just gimme old school Fords.
Take a look at what's happening at the PSMCD fellas, you just might change your mind about being embarrassed piloting a "dorky" ol' Studebaker.....

Better yet, when ya get to South Carolina, we can line up or I'll give ya a ride in a dorky ol' Studebaker, (after dark of course, wouldn't want to embarrass ya....
