My sweet spot is to press fast on the pedal and as rpm goes up I release my foot slowly, I get more response like that. on other note, I like it when it goes sideways, just proves how much torque it's got. So, does the E-Brake has anything to do with a good launch?

I have a five speed stick, '06 GT. I beat a new 350Z but only barely and eased away from him all the way up to 140MPH. At that point, he was just off my rear bumper.
Splurge on nitrous and you will be one happy race winner.

Wait, you're backing off through the run? The proper way has already been said: Quick jab, then steady press once it has hooked up.
You should not go sideways ever. It slows you down and indicates poor driving skill.
And you shouldn't touch the damn parking brake when making a run at the 1/4 mile track. (You are racing on a track, right? If you're on public streets, well, I will refrain from stating what I think of the f*cking idiots who street race...)
Also, this has been bothering me all thread, it's 6 thousand RPM, not "6 rpm".

dude, maybe you should chill, what r u so angry about, we all are learnin here, maybe u should make peace with our fast typing too, '6 rpm' is just easier to write. and yes we are doing it in streets but empty ones, you know when you're next to a racer at the stop sign you don't make an appointment with him on the track, you just wait for the light to go green. have it your way, be wise and miss all the fun

The S197's tranny has posted a faster time than the stick (not by much.) Search around Im sure you can find the info.
You will never be able to physically shift as fast as a machine.
The sticks advantage is that it really gives you more control over the car as far as when and how to shift. That being said autos are just as fast and in some cases faster than a stick. It all depends on how its built.
The Vettes auto tranny can keep right up with its stick cousin. It really wasnt untill the S197 that Ford had a nice tranny. The AODE that originally came in my car was a pure slush box.
The only transmissions that I have seen that a truly faster than manuals are the SMG and DSG boxes from BMW and VW/Audi. The times I have seen for s197's usually show the stick to be faster and allmost always reflect a higher mph over the 1/4. Unlike a dsg/smg box, the auto in the stang is still and auto and saps more power than a manual...
I agree that this new auto is a worlds ahead of the previous aod.

Yes, but the auto can make up for it by having more reliable shifts and quicker.
Autos in the GTs have also been slower due to haveing a smaller ger in the rear

I raced a guy from our MC in October at Fayettville Speedway, We both have 2005 Mustangs, with 4.10 Gears, and JLT II CAI and Underdrive Pulleys. I have Mac Axle Back and he has Flowmasters. I have an Auto and His was a Manual.
We Both have about 30,000 miles and about 40 or so runs at the track and both on street tires.
Maurice and I ran 3 times
Run one - 2K05GT 13.51 @ 101.90 Maurice 13.69 @ 103.00
Run two - 2K05GT 13.55 @ 101.44 Maurice 13.56 @ 103.71
Run three - 2K05GT 13.55 @ 101.83 Maurice 13.63 @ 103.42
My Best Time so far was..
RT - .888
60' - 1.96
330 ft - 5.50
1/8 - 8.50
1/8 mph - 81.08
1/4 - 13.32
1/4 mph - 102.53
Remember that the Autos have more Parasitic Drag than the Manuals, so Manuals will boast more HP to the Wheels.
Most Professional Drag Racers (Funny Car / Dragster / Top Fuel / Pro Stock) Race with Automatics.
Now to defend Manuals. I was at VIR which is a Euro Rally Race Track and I must say I WISH I had a Manual then, Down Shifting in those turns would have made the race more FUN.

Yeah you most def need a tune. That K&N will only give you like 7hp with out the tune. Even with a tuen a K&N isnt your best choice for an intake. check out Tunable Induction they make some really good stuff. Also changing your gears to a 3.73 if its a driver or a 4.10 if you really want to have some fun.
Alot could be that he is just launching better then you. test your car out and see what is the best way to launch your car with minimal tire slip.
Stop right their, I only read the first post and never buy a diablosport. ONLY SCT, unless you have a buddy that tunes on diablo. I still would stay away from diablo even if my best friend tuned with it.
Id say get a JLT or a C&L, 410's and an sct with a tune from doug at bamachips. Then youll rip that 350 apart!!

I have the same problem when ever i line up with somebody they wont run me, unless its sunday morning and were down at the cruise. Whenever my brother goes somewhere in his wrx sti he gets anybody and everybody trying to race him. 2 weeks ago i even got next to an 05+ GT, two lane road no lights he wouldn't even look at me I stayed next to him for about 4 miles with the occasional downshift then burst.
