Question Locking Gas Cap Tethering

Does anyone have experience with how to attach the rubber tethering device that is attached to the OEM gas cap to a replacement locking gas cap (such as Stant 11510 for an 05 Mustang V6), or is anyone aware of an 'after market' tethering cable that one can purchase to attach a non-OEM locking gas cap? Thanks!

The only problem with a locking gas cap (which weights more than a standard gas cap) is that if it had a tether cable and it slipped off the gas door cradle, it would probably scratch your paint job...

No, I have not ever seen a locking gas cap with a tether cable nor would I want one if they did come that way...

I have a locking cap that came with a tether.
All plastic except for the locking mechanism, so unlikely to scratch.
Found it on ebay.

WOW!!!

When I was shopping for my locking gas cap, no one had a cap with a tether cable...

I'm going to ebay and check it out...

Thanks, Dave

I bought a Stant and the factory tether attaches just fine.

Just slip it off the old cap and onto the new one - use a small screwdriver to get it started and then pry it off. You'll need the screwdriver to help pry it onto the new cap.
