This guy I used to work with was a service manager at Middlekauf Ford before it was sold. He told me that out s197 Mustangs have the exact same engine and inner workings as the older style (01-04, if that's the correct years).
Is this true? Are our Mustangs the same just with a difference body to them?

No this is not an accurate statement. The Mustang has had the same platform from '79-'04. Yes the bodies have changes, options have changed, and even some of the engine has changed. However, in 2005, the Mustang is built on an entirely new platform. In fact, there is very little in common between the 2005+ Mustang and any of the older ones (besides Name, and design ques).

Ok, that guy didn't have a clue. Pick up a Mustang brochure at the Ford dealer and you'll see what I mean. The S197 has an all new chasis, based on the Lincoln LS, that is stiffer than any previous Mustang. The front wheels have been moved forward 6 inches. Both those things provide better handling. The new engine is an all aluminum, SOHC, 3-valve per cylinder V8 with variable cam. The brochure claims it is 50% more efficient than previous engines.

yep, he's right. lincoln LS chassis. thats why this stang rides better than any previous stang. lincoln on 'roids with some sweet stylin'...

Not really an LS chassis even. It's vastly improved (and more than a little bit stiffer) than the LS chassis was. It's a hybrid chassis too, the entire front clip differs from the LS platform in order to allow the 4.6 litre V8 to fit.

Ford, instead of pouring money into the GT (building supercars), needs to pour more money into making the Mustang GT better, for the same price, lol.
Here we go again...You get a 300hp car that handles the way this one does for under 30k and you ain't happy. Ford made the GT to ressurrect some PR and pride for past accomplishments. It is a symbol and frankly I agree with the decision to build it. I you were to spread out the development and building costs for the GT over the total number of Mustang Gts that have been produced in that timeframe I doubt it would amount to much in the way of upgrades.
There...I said it

Wow, someone taking what I said to serious again. It was a joke. I love my car more than anything else I own. I just wish I could mod it. Other than that, I wouldn't change a thing, except for my rims and spoiler.

Sorry...no coffee yet this morning

the chassis is different from the previous years.. i believe.. i am not to confident that even the 2004's still had an sn-95 chassis.. but im not to sure.. also it is a 3 valve motor instead of a two valve althought they both are 4.6 liters for the v8's. The gear box is also a lot different my buddy with an 04 gt misses shifts like its his job and i moved his shifter around and boy it was difficult to find some gears///
Had an '03 GT, now have an '07 GT, if you had ever driven either regularly, you can immediately tell they aren't the same beast. As was said, it's a complete redesign, body, underpinnings, engine, everything. Read some of the lit that was put out in '04 and they tell you all about it. Also, I don't want more than 300 hp stock, over 305 you have to pay gas guzzler tax, and that sucks.

Don't you find it funny that the tax is based on horsepower rather than fuel economy?
