When I start the car at 4am, I'd rather not wake the entire house. Plus, many times it remains high (1200 rpm) until I punch the accelerator.

Gotta figure the stock tune does this as well, so for me it's no big deal. However, once I install my Kooks LTs (in the mail), starting the car at 6 AM in a garage will definitely wake up the neghbors. :-)

They should thank you for the wake-up call! I've got a side load garage so my Flowmasters point right at the neighbor's house. My garage acts as an echo chamber which adds to the effect. Luckily, the bedroom on this side of their house has been converted to an office so noone is trying to sleep there. Not sure if I had anything to do with that...

Well I'm on 5 acres so the neighbors aren't really a factor. I just don't want to wake the wife (our BR is above the garage).

After reading this thread, I richened my fuel on the BamaChips 93 Perf tune by 4% to see what it'd do to my cold start idle. This morning, I got a very sedate start up, with no real revving up, and it settled down almost immediately. I'll observe again this afternoon when I start up to go home.

From a cold start perspective only, that's an apparent improvement. Interesting. This might be telling me that I need to have A/F checked.

EDIT: I ran it out once or twice this morning on the way in to work, and there was no appreciable difference in power, and I also had no knocking or other bad behavior before I added fuel.

Good information to have. Thanks Dave. I'm anxious to hear the rest of your observations.

It might also be that you are partially drowning the engine and stifling the idle. In general you always want to be as lean as possible without causing misfiring. If the cold start high idle bothers you guys that much you should have the tuner send you a revised tune that lowers it directly rather than just dumping in fuel.

+1... And too much fuel=cats that don't last too long.

For you guys that have Bamatunes and cats, does your exhaust smell bad? I have the Perf and the Race tunes and they both cause a pretty foul odor. With other tunes there was no smell at all, just like stock. The Bamatunes perform much better. I just hope I'm not overloading my cats.

Same here... And when I took the car to the dyno, tuner said it was on the rich side (don't recall the A/F #s). I don't worry any more about the cats since they disintegrated and have already been gutted.

My tune from Doug was quite lean. I run an AEM Wideband. I called him and emailed him to discuss it. He suggested I enrichen it 8% after discussing my numbers. I wanted to take baby steps at it since I am new to the PRP. I went in 2% increments and drove the car 1 day with each change until I reached 6% and was satisfied. I run 12.8 in open loop as WOT (well as WOT as the drive by wire allows). Just because I put it to the floor does not mean it is WOT ! hahaha

Clearly each car is a little different. Odd since you and I are pretty close on the mods.

Yeah...I've got a little odor at startup also. I'm also noticing a little bit of black gunk on my tailpipes. Nothing major, but I do notice it around the edges of the pipe. is this normal?

My Flowmasters were black but I also run no cats so I'm sure that contributed to it.
