Default Factory decal removal

I just bought a 2005 V6 convertible and I love it! My only gripe are the MUSTANG decals that run down each side of the car (see my gallery). In my opinion I think it cheapens the look of my car. Has anyone in the community removed these? Did you do it yourself or have a body shop do it?

Heat gun or a very powerful hairdryer will work. Not easy to remove but can be done if you take your time. Clean up any residual adhesive with naptha or rubbing alcohol.

Ask your dealer if you can get them taken off through warranty. They might be nice enough to take them off just for the hell of it. Ya never know.

In my experience, I would take them off myself...

Don't leave it up to the dealer...

They may screww it up on you!!!

I work at a sign store, so I've been through this. Use a heat gun (cost about $25 at major hardware) and a PLASTIC scraper blade. Once you get it all off, use a product called Goo Gone (hardware store or wal-Mart) to remove the leftover adhesive, if there is any. This stuff is paint safe, very effective, and has a nice citrus scent. Whole deal shouldn't take more than an hour.

I took the stripes off mine within the first two months of buying. I did not use a heat gun or blowdryer or chemicals to remove any residue.
I just got a corner up and started pulling with even pressure and the stripe came right off....leaving no residue what so ever.
If the stripe has been on a while it might take the other methods...but if the car is new it should come right off.

I went the easy/obvious route that was suggested and the decal peeled off really nice, what little adhesive that was left came off with goobgone. Thanks for the advice, here are the before and after pictures, any comments?

Much "badder" without the girly stripes Good move. When I first saw the V6 mustang, I really liked the stripes but after a very short time, I couldn't stand them and thought they detracted from the whole car.

LMAO...there isn't much to screw up when all you need is a heat gun and some goo gone (or spot remover) for the adhesive.

Oh...BTW...your car is on my desktop at work.

LOL...did Griff have them take off stripes for you and something get messed up?

Heck, I didn't even need a heat gun, just patience and a good finger nail!

The important thing to remember is all that matters is your opinion. What anybody else says or thinks is inmaterial.

With that in mind,... the white stripe on an all black mustang does look a little out of place.

But in my case, I intentionally bought and installed a red rocker panel stripe to put on my GT. It seemed like a natural fit to break up the solid white side and I thought it went well the red/black interior. I then had the Shelby stripes painted to match the rocker panels.

Anyway congratulations on your fine 'Stang.

I still like the stripes on mine. I do catch myself from time to time thinking about removing them.
I dread the day when I wait too long and have a paint fade issue????
I had the louvers on the side windows and had to take them off due to the adhesive tape giving out. I was going to install them again...but then kind of liked the clean look....
That is what is nice about some of these mod's that are easily recitfied.

I really like the look of the racing stripes on your lime Mustang, I just didn't care for the bright white rocker panel stripes on mine because I believe they took away from the overall look of the car. I have seen some black Mustangs with graphite colored stripes, and they look really good. I might consider something like that down the line, got plenty more mods to knock out before I get to that!
