I read a post on another website that said guys with regular street radials on the dragstrip should drive around the water pit and then just turn the tires over a little bit, not smoke them, to clean them off. They said smoking the tires on street radials will only make them more slippery. Is this what we should do with street radials if we're at the dragstrip testing/tuning and doing a little bracket racing?

It has been my experience with steet tires that you drive around the water pit.

Hi GT Runner,
Yes, this is the best way with street radials.

you got it GT Runner dont know if smoking the tire makes it slippery or not..its just a waste of your tire. just spin them enough to clean them.
while we're on this..what about air pressure? I hear not to let air out..run the recommended pressure. what ya think? I left mine at 32

You'll want to back into the water (when the time comes to use it) so you don't bathe your front tires and bring it all up with you to slip through when you hit it, AND leave it for others to get mad at you over!
My first time at the track...Well lets just say I made a few guys mad...

Not one of my better runs that's for sure, lol. But does have a good example of the guy on top with Drag radials, and me on the bottom with street tires.
He gets the Drag radials nice n toasty. I drive around the water pit, back up to just before the pit, and do a small launch to clean the crap from the tires.(Funny listen to my kids comment, lol, "he tried")
Him thinking I was gonna do a smokey burnout.
I made 9 runs last time out, trying them smoked like drag radials, and just a short dry hop, it seemed to make no difference either way.
It will make you hook better if you let some air out of them. Try about 25 psi. They will hook better. I run mine at around 28 on the street to help with traction. I am traction challenged though!

Be careful, though. Dropping the clutch on a treated track surface with no water to start your burnout can be really hard on the drivetrain, if things start hopping!

thanks! I would think it has to help. I am soon to be traction challenged as well.

Need to download the divx/codec, or
What I like to use is VLC player. A free media player that plays ANYTHING, and isnt very large, and no spyware http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
Here's my tuner (Adam with ST Motorsports) doing a burn out after he made some adjustments to my trans and tune. He's real good and I drive 120 miles one way to see him.
