Default What's the Best S197 Tip You've Received on This Forum?

OK, specifically to the S197 guys, I'd like to know what was the best tip you've received on this S197 forum and if you know, who gave it to you? Use any criteria you wish; cost savings, time savings, increased coolness, whatever it did for you and your car to make you think it was the best tip you've heard here.

I've been here since the early days of the S197 and I've received a lot of tips but my favorite tip was a simple, easy solution I may never have thought of, and it probably saved me a TON of grief and a pocketful of money. I'm tall and the rear view mirror seemed like it was mounted way too low for me. It was in the middle of the windshield for me and I was always looking around it. It was extremely annoying. I was looking for a way to remove the mirror and mount it higher on the windshield so I came to this forum looking for a solution.

JetBlack told me to simply rotate the mirror 180 degrees. SHAZAM! The mirror sits at the very top of the windshield and I didn't have to remove the base from the windshield or any other complicated process I thought I was in for. I took all of 2 seconds to accomplish. Thanks, JetBlack! Never would have thought of that one.

Before I bought my stang I had just about bought a 69 big block vette. I put the question out to you good folks and every response was do the mustang the funny thing was everybody had a different reason for doing the mustang over the vette. Took my deposit back on the vette and have no regrets. Thank you AFM.

There are so many it's tough to narrow it down to one or two. I really value the advice and the friendships I've established on the forums. Only complaint I have--you guys have cost me a lot of money

Brake fluid cap, TSB troubleshooting, comparisons on performance mods.
But if i hadnt heard about the brake fluid cap it would still be leaking and eating the paint out of the inside of my engine bay.

1st thing was the global window operation. I'm not sure if that is the official name of this. Hold the door unlock on the key fob and the windows go down or turn the key in the lock to the right for the same function. The dealer had no clue of this until I brought in proof from here. BRAVO! Thanks to KJ and STL for many answers too! I'm sure many more to follow.

WA; think that's on the active alarm ones...?? Plus your car does NOT look like an angel!!

I can't even start with all the help I've gotten on here... cheeze... and my friend/tuner Ken at MD... so much... but the best 'idea' (after beeing reffered to MD) may be the Tokico D-Specs or maybe the floor mats... yup you heard me right... the floor mats... if you don't have them get your own custom made pieces!! There may still be an AFM discount...!??!

Not exactly. Ford disabled the remote global window down feature in 05' because "some" cell phone signals "may" cause the system to malfunction, or roll the windows down.
I don't see why the door key feature would'nt work though.

Sadly, the best tip from here was to read the manual (how to enable the RDS feature on the radio).
Everything else was either from another forum (waterpump, pedal covers, tuner) or I came up with myself (stripes, flywheel cover bolts missing, enableing the center brake light bulbs)

But without a doubt, AFM is my very favorite forum.

I think all the suspension tricks posted by SportsPix are the best information I have received. I'm getting ready to trick out the coupe suspension and the info is my guide. The best "Duh" info was from someone who suggested tightening the two shaft bolts on my Hurst shifter when it got real sloppy. I was prepared to replace the shifing forks

My best tip was to do the CAI and Tuner first... plus gettign hooked up with Fred at Evolution Performance for my Parts.

Ah and soe many fo you wonderful folks have given me stress relief by spending time in here blabbing about cars.

This is my fav board of all time so far... very friendly and knowledgeable.

I really wish I could remember the member's name... He posted the eBay link to the 2006 Pony Grille Package I swapped for the standard '05 style back in March. Increased the coolness of my baby AND saved me about $1,000 on parts and labor!

Cost was $425 including shipping and my ex installed it for a $50 gift card to his favorite hobby store (my idea; he didn't want anything in return - he's a very nice guy who loves working on hot cars. )

My dealership wanted about $1,500 total for the job... Can we all spell R-I-P-O-F-F?
