Question What to buy. 2005 Mustang GT or 2007 Mustang Pony Package?

I can buy a 2005 GT 5 speed with 1/4 window louvers and shaker 1000 for $22,995 w/ 10k miles

or a 2007 Pony Package V-6 for about the same money or 1k less.

The GT freakin screams and is in like new condition, but will soon need new rear tires...within a year anyway. It is red with the Red and black leather seat scheme.

THe '07 can be whatever color shaker 500 and also 5 speed but a V-6.

This is what I'm looking at, if I trade the '05 in 2 years, its a 4 year old car, but GT's hole their price well. If I trade the '07 in 2 years its a 2 year old car. The V-6's with the 5 speed run pretty damned good, and with a a chip or turner, run even better.
I do LOVE that HORSEPOWER though.

An '06 GT automatic w/5k miles is also available. I didn't drive the automatic. will the GT automatic burn the tires nicely........HELP!!!!!!

Any of them will be a good option, but for me... I just need the V8 sound.

I vote for either V8. The new V6's, even though as powerful as some older GTs will just never hold the value of a true GT.

IMO, take one of the V8's.

yea, my first car was a 64 1/2 with the performance package (271 horse)

I bought it in 1974 from my cousin who's husband was in Germany and had no idea what she had done. when he came home he tried to make me give the car back, then my Dad got involved and ended up telling him he needed to carry his ass before he got hurt.........dad was a la. redneck.........I'm a lover though.

I've only had two none performace cars a 1995 Ford F150 with a V-8 and an '02 Taurus. I couldn't stand it any longer, kids are grown and gone and now its time to get back to living life again.

Do you think the price is okay even for the '05 GT, Its jus a great looking car.

You will regret not getting a GT! You will!!

What was sticker on the 05? $23K is a bit high unless it has ALL the options, hence was a +$30K car! If from a dealer I'd DEMAND FREE extended warranty...

The autos run nice! Very nice! If you have no preffrence, are not building a racer, or sit in traffic get the auto... I would never but can see the benefits...

Yea the 300 hp V8. But what i got upset about the other day is that the new Acura or something comes with 306 horsepower. And i'm like what!!! Its not even a big luxary car or something. but this is why the next mustang will come with 350 horse in the V6

Uh, guys. KJ and Kyle, I will bow out if you would like me to, but has anyone ignored the obvious? I'm a V6 guy, but would buy a GT if the if I had his options right now except for the car having 10k and needing new tires. Did anyone think that it has beat on? Just my 2 cents knowing that he could be back here in 6 months saying that the GT's were pieces of crap eventhough the previous owner may have pounded the crap out of it......

Hello, take from a guy who bought a v6 and regreted it. I had an 05 V6 and i did love the car but i watched it depreciate at an incredible rate and that totally sucked. Also the power difference is huge. If you are planning on adding mods then get the gt. I have an 05 Gt now and it was totally worth it. There is more mods to buy for her. oh ya and there was only 45000 05 GT made also, and only one out of the ten where standard making the 05's pretty rare and holding there value. So good luck

Shiner; No, pls. shime in, Terry came for opinions and yours count...!! I thought you were going into the whole insurance and fuel costs, WHICH are valid points, especially insurance if you're under 25 or have points, the diff is about double I have been told!! Also, I have had my tires for 17,000 miles and they look like new, I drive it hard (+ 600 HP) but do no burnouts on my street tires...

Terry; ask for certified and extended warranty!

Billy; I thought that there were more GTs in 05? Only one in 4 S197s? I think that was the plan but they changed it and there ended up beeing almost half...?? Anywho 45,000 cars is allot... hey; mine is mineral grey, only year for that color... added value!

Both are great cars. Sure the GT is quicker right out of the box, but the 6 has so much potential. Just look at the number of guys who are well over 300 rwhp with FI. Weigh everything--cost, insurance, depreciation and make an informed decision.

My two cents...go for the GT. I grant, I may be biased since I have a GT with the red leather interior and love both. There is nothng worng getting the V6, but as mentioned previously, if your intention is to modify, then go with the V8.

As for the production of '05 GTs, I think it was closer to 60K GTs. But even then, I like the numbers for the GT.

KJ, It's just that the whole tire thing scares me. I know a guy here that bought an '01 Cobra last Spring and has it on the market now for 16k with 60,000 miles with new tires. It is advertised that way because he couldn't ride with us at the "end of the year rally" because his tires were down to the cords from burn outs. I wouldn't buy his car knowing what he had done to it or the abuse it had taken while he was learning to drive it. So if it has 10k and it will need tires in the future, was this an owner that just bought it and beat on it knowing he was going to trade it in for someone else to deal with? Did he properly break the car in? It kind of scares me knowing what I know about Dan's car. You see people with cars they baby, and cars they neglect, which owner would you buy from? I do get on my car alot, but I'm also very anal about upkeep and maintenence. I won't even drive on dirt roads.

This same old question keeps coming up in all the areas. Who owned it prior to you, and were there any signs of abuse?

Yea... pretty much ANY used car have been beaten in one way or another... cold starts high revs towing burnouts so on so forth...

As long as the rev limitor was there and there is no drivetrain damage (ie. clutch) it should be fine for 200K+ miles!!
