Default Favored Tune? Your opinions?

Ok, so the tuner is on the way and should have it next week. Just wanting to ask, what tune do most of you use (by that I mean which octane tune)? I will play with them all but will eventually settle into one. Just wondering if poping the extra change for the premium stuff will be worth it. Also, I posted a thread before asking about using premium fuel in our cars WITHOUT a tune. That was answered just fine, but now I am wondering, even with a tune specifically designed for the 93 octane should I be concerned about using it in my engine? I know our engines were originally designed for the 87 so would it be best to just keep it there even with the tuner? Just don't want to do anything to put the longevity of my engine and parts (i.e. spark plugs) at risk. I'm guessing that ocatane used is ALL dependent on engine timing. But once again I am no expert and am not sure if there are other factors that come into play with octane. To sum up my jibberish, when I get my tuner and use the 93 tune will I be putting my engine at any greater risk than with the 87 tune? Thanks again!

I started with an 87 tune and eventually went to a 93 and never looked back. If the car is tuned properly to 93, you run no greater risk of damaging it than by running the stock Ford tune. Just make sure if you go to a 93 tune, you run the tank as dry as you can first and then fill 'er up with 93.

There are dashpot settings in the tuning software that control throttle response.

I started running the 93 octane race tune when I first got my tuner. I love it and the power and response is great. Here lately Ive changed back to the 87 performance tune and its been almost as great. I can definitely tell there is less power there but it still runs smooth and better response. And knowing Im saving about a quarter a gallon on gas, I love it too.

93 FTW!

Higher octane gas will actually extend the life of you parts, as it tends to be cleaner than 87; Ford tunes them from the factory to the lowest common denominator, but with a tune that can properly take advantage of higher octane gas, you'll get more power and better engine wear.

incorrect. ALL gas is equally as clean whether its 87 or 93 octane. The only difference is the additives added and 93 octane burns slower. Thats it.

I said it tends to be cleaner, which is true. In theory, higher octane has nothing to do with the purity of the gasoline, so you're right, the octane shouldn't make a difference. But 87 gas is far more popular and widespread than premium gasoline, which in turn leads to more variation in the processing and storage, etc. As a result, lower-octane gas tends to be less pure, and so not as clean, as premium gas, which a lot of people here that have tried both can back me up on.

sorry, not true.. if you don't believe me, email one of the oil companies and pose that question to them.. Not trying to bust your bubble, I just want others to know the facts. If anything, the 93 tends to sit more in tanks due to non use and may be not as fresh at the low grade stuff.
