I got me 2007 GT and i bought the Diablo Predator with all the tunes at a shop. Got it tuned up. My question is that which is better to put on for more HP, Ram Air or Cold Air Intake? Or can u do both? I heard C & L was the best to get for cold air intake, is this true? I'm confused about the whole air intake deal and i just want to get the best thing for my car. thanks for the reposts.
First off, welcome to AFM! Don't get sucked in by the ram air myth. It really doesn't work, especially on a fuel injected car. Maybe on an old carbureted vehicle with a 10 inch scoop. The C&L is a good investment. I ran one for a year and really liked it. If you get the C&L, make sure you have your tunes adjusted for the increased airflow (unless you did that already).
But ram air is so dog gone cool looking..lol Or so I thinkso, hence why I bought a ram air hood. But then again, I bought the cold air intake first.
I am looking for a cold air intake, and was thinking on the C&L also.
C&L requires a predetor tune according to what I read, due to the MAF. I came across an article on the Granatelli, which appears to be a nice set up and does not require a tune, becuase I believe they addressed the MAF issue. Has/Does anyone have or heard of and positives / negatives on the Granatelli?

GMS has it's own MAF. Only problem is it only addresses that particular mod. If you get the C&L with a tuner (SCT or Predator) you have far more options if you mod anything else down the road.
Don't get me wrong, Eric... You're definitely getting colder air than without the hood. It's just not getting forced into the intake.
In addition to the colder air, I am getting cooler looks too. I knew for awhile that even though my hood is functional, meaning it actually allows the cooler air to reach the CAI, that the hood is not forcing the air into the CAI. It is just allowing cooler air to be avaialble. But, nonetheless, I still like my "ram air" hood. The cool looks makes up for the lack of "ram induction".
If you get a C&L, like I did because of the all aluminum construction, or a JLT, Demolet or other that has a larger MAF housing built in, you need a Tune calibrated for that MAF. This is very important for Max power and most importantly to protect your Engine.
With that said. I took some readings with my laptop and tuner and anythign over 35mph the C&L is bringing in Air maybe just 2* above ambient. Even sittign at a redlight it takes some time for the temps to rise, so you are getting pretty cool air. Then again, the engine bay itself becomes almost ambient temperature air at highway speeds.
So, with that said. Ram Air looks cool, but it just doesn't add much because of the ram effect... its really just because you are getting cooler air. As long as your ram air has a pretty direct route to the throttle body that is pretty smooth, it shoudl do the same as the CAI power wise on most cars. On ours we can achieve greater Airflow with the Air intakes that have a larger MAF, but most near stock engines won't untilize this extra air.
The CDC shaker hood feed the stock airbox and MAF. I know its pulling cooler air, but with all the extra track that it is following... I question how much more volume it can flow. To the point where it looks like (and I haven't seen any comparisons) the gains from cooler air would be offset by the many extra curves added slowing down the air and reducing air flow.

Thanks for the info.
I am new at this tuner stuff, so some of my questions might be dumb.
Being that GMS has their own MAF, which would limit tuner options,
well let me ask this first:
I actually do not plan on any other mods, (so we all say) but is the stock MAF interchangable with the GMS and if one wanted get a SCT or Predator tuner for further mods? I guess what I am asking, would there or are there downloads to make different tunes if you had a GMS and later made other mods. It does make sense what you say in getting the C&L with tuner because you can tune to also different octanes. I have seen the C&L on the video provided in the Muscle Mustang Magazine (Feb 07 issue) and it is simple to tune and return back to stock when bring it in for service. My dealser is a real PITA, and busted my rocks because I removed my wheels to paint my Calipers. It is a 07 with the 5/60 so really do not want to jeperdize that, but with the GMS or C&L easy in and out before service.
Also, does the C&L or what ever Cold Air Intake give a different exhaust sound, I do have the T304 Pypes Violators on the car. All of my mods I haveare all cosmetic right now.
Thanks

There are no dumb questions here... Even with the GMS intake and MAF you could still tune it with a Predator or Xcal later if you decided to mod further. Either CAI can be swapped out for the stock airbox in just a couple of minutes.

Thank man, appreciate the help. Learned something new today, which is a good thing. The only tuners I am familiar with is for these beasts.

Nice looking axes there! I've got an old Telecaster, a Washburn bass, and a Yamaha 12-string acoustic.
Off Topic...............
Cool, great instruments...... I just love playing guitars......... another expensive hobby, think I have around 22 but didn't want to take the expensive ones out in the humid weather, 80's today in FL and humid.
It is so cool going to local auto meets, putting the top down and standing up the white axe, in the back seat, gives the Stang a perfect Rock and Roll theme, tone of electrifying power, and a symbol of Americian freedom.
Back on subject............ does the cold air intake change the exhaust sound, if so how, louder, deeper, etc. I got stock system with Pypes Violators.

Any chance I can trade you some Car lessons for some Guitar Lessons?

Intake sound will be a little more aggressive but the exhaust note won't be changed (at least not that you'll notice).
