Well, we have registries for every color, region, and now even MrV's Pampered Pet Registry. I think I should start the Bonehead registry.
The day started innocently enough. I wasn't feeling top notch, so my family let me sleep until 10 O'clock. Unheard of for me, and too late to go to church. OK, I get a cup of coffee and browse the forum for a bit, then think "What can I do, that won't take a lot of effort?". Well, I wanted to give the 'Stang a good wash and wax, but I just wasn't up to that. So I decided to do something nice.
Now, my Wife not only supports, but encourages my hobbies. So, I like to do nice things for her. I bought her a fairly expensive receiver/DVD system for her car for Christmas. She has a new job with a longer commute, so I thought she might enjoy that. Anyway, I figured I'm sitting on my butt. How less strenuous could it get? I got the wiring harness soldered up and pulled the dash and center console apart. I installed the receiver without a hitch. This isn't where the bonehead maneuver comes in, so don't go away.
After I got the receiver installed I moved onto the DVD system. I had to remove the seat (remember, I wasn't really looking to do anything strenuous) and install the video portion of the system. Surprisingly, everything went well. This I can do. Installing superchargers, no, but I do know my way around electronics. Get some more popcorn, because the bonehead maneuver is coming up.
Now, suffice it to say, my wife's car would not make it in the pampered pet registry. So, I'm on a roll. Everybody has that little voice that says quit while you're ahead. I never listen to mine. Drowned out by the other voices I presume. Anyway, I decide to clean the inside of her car.
I took out her floor mats (Hint, the Bonehead maneuver is getting close), and get out the shop vac and clean the floor. I cleaned and tire shined everything. Not quite a 'Stang cleaning, but more than good enough for her daily driver.
I put her floor mats in the washing machine to give them a good wash after shaking them out. Now, for the bonehead maneuver. I put them in the dryer. I figured that after shaking them out and washing them, they'd be relatively clean. Well, color me stupid.
After two hours of vacuuming about a pound of sand out of the dryer, and using softscrub to get all the black scuffs off of my high-end, expensive dryer, I finally managed to get it back to new condition.
So, learn from my mistake. Never, ever put your floor mats in the dryer.
How many mistakes end with the statement:
"It sounded like such a good idea at the time"?
The worst part is my Wife is laughing at me.....

OK, so I've added a few things to it. Check my Profile - too many to list here.
Nicely done! Now we know how much sand floormats can hold
Right, and we also know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall. Science progresses.

Been there, done that. I hate it when I do stupid things.
Kudos for wanting to do something nice for your wife,
that out weighs the mistake by far!!!!!

BTW - after washing mats (with a carpet shampooer or other car detailing method) use a shop vac to get the soap/water out of the mats and let them air dry for a few hours OR set them in front of a fan.
That's how we did it at the detail shop (to dry them).
We live, and we learn.

Well, I guess I should belong to this registry as well. My bonehead move (or at least the one I am telling) does not involve my car but does have a wahing machine in it. As you all know, I am military, and yes I have been to Iraq. I was in Iraq befroe the new military ACUs came out, when we still had the DCU (Desert Camo Uniform) which is a litght tan color. Well, money is always tight in the military, so my unit only issued 2 sets of DCUs.
When we first got to Kuwait (the staging area for Iraq), we were in tents. Then later we were in buildings, where we actually had beds and washing machines. I had gone to the PX to buy some sheets for my bed. I bought dark burgundy sheets. Then laundry day came up. I then washed my DCUs, but at the last moment, I decided to through all my laundry into one load...ya know the bachelor way...including the burgundy sheets. Needless to say, the set of DCUs I put in the wash turned pink. YES, PINK DCUs. Damn hard to explain to anyone, including my commander why I had to be unique and wear pink DCUs in the desert. Well I then used bleach and water to to rewash them, and after several tries, I got the majority of the pink out, but still to this day, that set of DCUs has a slight pink hue.

So does this qualify for the bonehead registry?
Absolutely... How about this one? No washing machine or car but it does have a war... Was in Saudi during the 1st Gulf War assigned to CENTCOM FWD. One day I went to use the latrine and passed GEN Schwartzkopf, GEN Powell and Dick Chaney standing in the hall talking. Unfortunately, Schwartzkopf apparently moved a little too close to the door and when I came out I hit him really hard right in the a$$ with the bathroom door. I actually moved him about two feet. Needless to say, I didn't stick around long enough for him to figure out who I was.
I just put a nail through the eyelet for the hook system on the mats and nail them to a tree. Then Hit them with the power washer for 15 minutes. When the run off starts running clear then they are mostly clean.
When I got single (after 20 yrs) I put dishwashing soap in my dishwasher. It looked like a rabid dog for about two hours. I finally just went out on the deck and smoked a cigar while it continued to foam everywhere. My best friends wife told me not to use any appliance until she checked me out on them.

Hey isn't pink in?? doesn't pink promote peace?? I think it brings out a more softer side to combat. Maybe the enemy would just roll over laughing and give us the advantage LOL

Well, there were definitley people rolling on the floor laughing the butts off...but somehow, I just do not think it was the enemy.
I will say, even if you put the U.S. Military in pink, we would still be the most effective fighting force in the world.
I agree 100 percent on that!!! I am proud of each and everyone of them!! I would like to see them in pink though, just once LOL
Great, I can see it now. Here comes the Pansy Brigade....I'm quivering in fear, but don't they just look FABULOUS?
In all seriousness, however, I really don't think the military gets half the respect it deserves.
