Ford Racing's hood pins do not come with instructions, hints, pictures or anything.
I had a serious hood flapping issue in a very strong headwind and it was *alarming* to say the least. The hood wasn't just buckling and denting, it was also moving left and right... a lot!
I know some of you have pins but I have not received any replies to queries, in PMs.
I really do not want to make a mistake and then have to go through all the headache of getting an aftermarket...
carbon...
fiber....
Hmmmm.
Ok, I'm back now. If you have pics of where you located the pins, under the hood, it would be greatly appreciated and any sentences that start with "For the love of God, whatever you do, DON'T..." will be even more greatly appreciated.
Some guy on another forum posted a very good step-by-step guide on installing the FRPP hood pins. I can't find it and I don't recall which forum it was located in. About the best I could do would be to take pictures and measure location with a tape measure if that would help.
I don't have them but I've seen a few. The ones I've seen usually put them where the bumper stops are for the stock hood.
That's not really the best spot because of the way the hood curves. The best spot is very close to the radiator cover where mine are. The hood is flatter there.
Thats what i never liked about hood pins on my 69 Mach I and 70 Maverick race car.
You would have thought by now they would have used polished SS and SS screws. I hope they at least have plastic coating on the lanyards.
Lanyards are coated with plastic and seem to be doing real well after about a year.. The screws and plates aren't rusting. Just the pins and not the whole pin, just the ring. Disappointing really.

A big thanks on the photos. I saw some good tips about placing the pins, then putting lipstick on them and gently pressing the hood down on the pins to mark location.
I am guessing a step drill for both sets of holes? I believe there is not a hole there for the pin, next to the radiator? Ideally, I would have liked to put them right through the rubber stops, if there were a way to do that. Yike, am I not looking forward to drilling holes in my baby.
The pins say they are stainless but that doesn't mean they are "good" stainless. Martensitic and ferritic will rust just fine. Well, I am going to be working with a shop full of engineers in a couple of months. Maybe I can get one to machine me some new ones out of 316 and I will passivate them in nitric acid, to eliminate future rust.
There is no existing hole. A step drill bit would be the way to go. Personally I don't own any lipstick but that should work fine. I feel your anxiety about drilling holes in the hood. I held onto my pins until I had the body kit done and had them do it.
You could actually use the rubber stops. You would have to drill out the centers to reinstall them as stops over the pins to support the ends of the hood. They will be farther apart if thats the look you want.
I personally like where they are in the pics.
