Any fix yet for the frozen window causing the door not to close?
I replied to a post in the V6 forum, but I know it does not get as many looks as in here. So this is in regards to the windows freezing and can't close the door due to the window not dropping down when the door is opened in the cold.
I have this problem any time there is frost worth scraping on the car. Last year I was real good about storing the car for the winter. I had a few days this year when our daily driver was down and needed to use the Mustang. It was not snowing or anything, just frost from the condensation in the morning.
Anyway, I can open the door but closing it is a nightmare. You have to let the car warm up so the window track/weather strips will unfreeze. I did a search here and did not find it, but I know a lot of us had this issue. I remember the one suggestion was to push the window inward while trying to close it. That was fine if you were parking but near impossible if you were going to drive. The other is hold the power button down and try to put a little weight on the top of the window to free it from the ice.
It has happened a few times and made us late for work.
Has anybody found a fix besides moving to someplace warm?

I don't understand why you're having a problem. Many occasions mine have been frozen, or the battery out of the car and the door would open/close just fine.

I know what he's dealing with. Anytime I disconnect the battery I have a heck of a time closing the doors with the windows up. I guess some cars seal better than others.
I just pull the door harder. I drive mine almost every day (on nice days I drive the weekend car, but the Mustang is my daily) and it lives outside in the winter. Haven't had a problem from this yet.

If you are going to disconnect the battery for whatever reason, like to work on, I make sure I drop the window(s) first.
Now her coupe, (sometimes sits too long without using) and the battery dies, of course I need to open the door to pop the hood before doing a charge, but then will keep the window down an inch or two. They do seal pretty good. Thus far have not had that issue with my Vert. Actually I do not like this window behavior though it does a good job in sealing.
When closing the coupe with the window all the way up such as in the dead battery case will hit against the hard plastic exterior trim and one feels that the window will pop out of alignment or lossen with play. I do not think it would be that bad on a vert coz there is no hard trim to hit, but then again, never had that dead battery issue. Usually before i do any work on the VERT, I put the top down coz of ease of entering and exiting the vehicle, and always it is in the garage. It is just my practice.
In the posters case, I can understand that it appears the car is left out side, and a passanger is getting in a car and might not know about the pre-drop window, and then close the door with that window clash.

Garage, if possible, or if Dr side does not give u a problem, start the car and point the dash heater vent to the Pass window a few mins and try opening it with you electric switch before opening the pass. door.
Another thing you can try is waxing the window (outside) with a car wax. I use to always my exteior (SIDE) windows and it worked well, when living in the New England states.

You can also wipe the rubber door seal with spray silicone. Note I said wipe, so spray it on a cloth and wipe it down. I do it on my 97 Ranger so the windows wouldn't stick form freezing rain.

I usually have the same problem where you can't open the door because the window won't drop off, so it won't get pass the plastic perimeter because of the ice.
So the only way to fix that was to insert a card (similar to a credit card) between the window and the rubber and break the ice.
But today, I couldn't unlock the car using the alarm remote, so I thought due a frozen lock, so I tried to lock it again just to see if the alarm sensor was working: The sensor was frozen!!
I tried to insert the key to disable the alarm and unlock the door, but I couldn't turn the key, the lock was frozen OR because the window has ice in it, it won't drop, so making the key un-turnable.
So I ended up leaving my car at home and going to work with a friend!!
I thought of these possible solutions:
- An antifreeze spray or something like that
- Try to not close the window firmly, so in case I open the door it doesn't do the short drop glass feature.
- Cover the whole car with a car cover.
What do you think guys?
Thanks, KB

Another great design by Ford...but didn't you know that your Stang should always be garaged and therefore you'll never experience that problem?
I agree...the weatherstrip should be made of something a bit softer than the rigid black plastic and then opening/closing the door would not be a problem in the event your battery craps out...sometimes those nerdy engineers don't explore all the possibilities in the different climates and this one didn't receive much scrutiny...it just looked like another great gimmick to add on.
I got back to my car around 2:00pm, tried to unlock it using the alarm remote, didn't work.
So I used the key to get in, tried to start the engine: NONE OF THE LIGHTS WERE ON on the dashboard!
The problem was due to the battery, so the Toeing company came and JUMP STARTED my car, waited for 20min then took it to Ford to do a checkup.
They told me that they didn't find anything weird, the battery is good, the charger is good and everything was fine. So I have to test it tonight and see what happens.
Note: The car was parked for only 2 days!
But my question is, why did the battery die? (I have 3800miles on my car)
Thanks, KB
