It was the first time in 25 yrs. (sons first time) I made a few runs with reaction time of .72 (must be getting old...lol) 83.7 mph 8.3 et. I don't know much about 1/8 mile, always raced 1/4 mile in Hallesville texas. I should have ben bracket racing, made 3 runs, consistant reaction time and mph withing .3 either way. I had a freaking blast. I don't know if these are good times for a basically stock 06 GT. If anyone know would they pleas let me know.
I got killed by a FIrebird that definitely was not stock. I say this cause of what was squirting out of the 3rd washer on the hood....lol
8.30s stock? dang good run!! My best was 8.50 on 100 octane fuel with the race tune thru off road x-pipe and Pypes mufflers.
you run a set of DRs? I ran stock street tire. I did get in the 1.9s 60ft I see you have a auto to...thats awesome! great track times man!

Man you have got a lot more stuff on your car than I do. I can't hardly believe that just the airaid and the tune from Diablo that is setup for the Airaid. I want to say also the temp was about 50 degrees. I know that cold air makes a big difference, but damn!!!!.........lol
Man there were a couple of datsun 240Z's with badass motors, both had wheelie bars, one of them I believe would have jumped straight up if he hadn't had the bars. The P.A. system SUCKED!!!!!!! you could not hear the announcer over the cars (the real race cars) but I think the 240z's were doing 5 seconds at 120-125. Man they were the baddest.
The looked like ****, but they were dusting all these great looking and great running 68-71 Camaro's , I mean man there were killing everything. It was really almost comical.
God I had a great time with the kiddo. It really has been a long time.
Last time I was racing I was in my early 20's, I'll be 50 in may.
One thing I am greatly concerned about though is my son will start driving in June and he is a worse horsepower freak than I am. When we are out in my Mustang he is wanting me to race everything that looks like it MIGHT even run. Right now a '70 model Volkswagon is looking good to me for his first car.
Let me say one more thing. The tune from Diablo for the Airaid tune that is the 93 octaine tune also has "firm shift" in it. there is no sliding into the gear, I mean it get rubber in 2nd and 3rd gear. Shifts kind of like the old automatics did when you put a B&M shift kit in them. Its pretty impressive too when you come back from a run and people going "damn you know your car is chirping the tires going to 2nd and 3rd", I 'm thinking hell yea I can hear, I'm not deaf......lol.
Terry, 8.3 in the 1/8 is awesome for the mods you have. Sounds like you had some really good air, which definitely helps, but even so an 8.3 is still very, very good! Most stock (or near stock) S197's I see run are in the high 8's or low 9's. Congrats!!
BTW... another +1 for us "old guys". I'm 48 and loving life! I also went almost 30 years in between my drag racing trips. Last time I raced was in 1977, and didn't start again until 2005.

Nice job. Like everyone says, those are fantastic times.
+1 more for old guys. My first drag strip run in my life was in my S197. Now I am not only hooked for life, I'm actually doing well. Finished top ten last year in our racing league out of 200+ drivers. Beginner's luck for sure, I'll have a target on my back this year. Last year nobody knew me and I snuck past a few veteran drivers.
You will love drag racing. Join a racing team, it's even more fun when you're kicking Corvette butt!!

Yeah I can relate. I have a 2005 Mustang GT, and we got a 2006 V6 Mustang Coupe for my 16 yr old son to drive(yeah, I'm crazy about Mustangs). He thought he could get away with speeding a little too, until a cop showed up at our house late one Saturday night a few weeks ago. My son was doing 41 in a 25 in our town. The cop gave my son a choice since it was his first speeding offense(at least the first time he got caught), a $350 ticket, or I'll call your parents. My son chose the parents. When the cop realized that they were already really close to our house, he said that he would just follow my son home and talk to us in person. The cop was very cool about it, but gave my son a good tongue lashing in front of his mom and me. It's a smaller town, so the cops will be following my son now for sure, and he knows it. In fact, today my son warned me of some new speed traps in the area(he was not speeding), so he is aware of the consequences even more now. He is lucky, as the cop could have decided to take his license away until he turned 18.

I had let my tires down to about 17 pounds, I was getting hardly any spin off the line after short burn, there was enough traction goo from the big slick cars that all of us that were less than 400 hp were not spinning much at all.
tire pressure is an old trick from my younger days, works good with nylon belt tire, works killer with radials.
I have always heard the difference between big boys and little boys is the price of their toys, I wonder if that goes for old boys too?
I would like to mention that the track we went to is about 50 yrs old and not in the most pristine condition.......I would not be surprised if their equipment had not been calibrated or even replaced in as many years. It is definitely a run fwhat you brung as well as drink what you brung.
Two old black guys lined up (left lane 69 dhevy truck) (right lane 81 catalina) guy in left lane has cig in one had beer in the other, guy in right lane has some kind of mixed drink and also cig. I swear they were squinting through the cig. smoke to see the tree. Not the safest track around but at least a place to go, turn and burn. All in all it was very comical for the most part. Good time had by all!
WOW... that's simply amazing for GT auto with your list of mods... on street tires too??? What was your 60 foot time? An 8.3 works out to be like 12.8 to 12.9ish... wow....

bit more octaine and advance the timing. Truth is, I have an Uncle who has been racing for longer than I am old, He is the king of fuel blends. When I go home to shreveport I always bring back a few jerry cans. I'm not exactly sure wha the mixture is, however he did say try not to get any on the paint.....! Not sure if that was B.S. but better safe than sorry. Uncle John told me that it would be okay to run this in my car every once in a while. So I try to coincide a nearly empty tank with fun time, with a nearly empty tank I mix his stuff 50 / 50 with my reg 93 octaine. aprox 3 gallons of each. You can really tell when I am running that stuff, exhaust has a totally different smell.
I asked him how harmful this was to my car and he said no more so than a 75 shot of nitrous, I said cool. So far so good, I really try not to make a habit of running it my car, but damn you can really tell the difference.
I am going to go back to the dyno when I have some in my tank just to see what the difference is. I promise it's getting me close if not there to 300 rwhp.
I asked him what it was and he just said you wanna go fast or not.
I think he is concerned that I might make a habbit of running his "rabbit juice" in my car. You have to understand my uncle is country as pig ****, but man he can make a car GO!
If Uncle John's fuel has lead in it, you are asking for trouble if you still have cats on the car.
