I'm a definite member of the Legend Lime camp, just look at my sig! As for the wheels, I would go for 18's. I think they look just right and they don't add too much unsprung weight. The rubberband tires just don't suit the muscle-car look (IMO). But the S197s are great from the factory in all colors! Any non-rice mods would look awesome.

What I would change.... heated leather seats were not available during my year A rebate would have been nice. As would the 60,000 mile warranty.
255s instead of the 235 series tires, stock.
Louder exhaust would have been nice, stock, but I probably would have changed it anyway.
A faster tune on the CPU.
Other than that.... it's a beautiful car! See the pics? Yes, it's that shiny. Black is my favorite color for the new Mustang, but a red convertible looks really cool.
Here's a video of what the exhaust should have sounded like, from the factory!
Still reading good input here. A word about the Shaker 1000 though. It seems some people think it's an upgrade for just the radio, or just the the additions of the subwoofers in the trunk. It's more than that. It's additional power as well. I'm sure the head unit in the dash is the same as the Shaker 500. The upgrade is to the power amp and the addition of the subwoofer and when you look at it like that then 1300.00 is not that expensive an upgrade.
I would think for a convertible you definitely would need the extra power, but not so much in the sedan. However, doubling the power only gives about a 3db increase in sound pressure level. For instance if your system can top out at 115 db with 50 watts/channel then 100 watts would get you to 118db or so. Doesn't sound like much but it's more noticeable than one might think. Good, clean power is an expensive upgrade, no way around that. Obviously I will have to find a dealer that has a car with both systems and listen to how they sound. They could both suck for all I know....lol.
Going aftermarket for an audio system has it's advantages and disadvantages. It's not an inexpensive thing to do. It takes time and money and unless you are a pro I would not recommend a DIY job. I've put aftermarket systems in my cars for years and trust me, it does not help at all with the re-sale value of a car. In some cases it can actually hurt re-sale value because the average Joe is concerned about all the work that was put into the car. Plus current car audio systems have improved by leaps and bounds in the past 7 or 8 years. And they all are fully integrated with the rest of the interior. You risk losing the design lines of the interior by installing aftermarket, not to mention possibly rendering some of the integrated controls (like steering wheel mounted controls) useless. And with a retro interior design like the Mustang, that is an issue in my opinion.
The only way I would go aftermarket now is if the stock system really came up short.
I really like my factory Shaker 1000, sounds great with the Top down or up, so far no complaints after a couple months of ownership. Sure aftermarket stuff is great too, but you're talking some big bucks for a KA system. Fortunately I lucked out & bought a used 06 GT Vert 11 months old w/7K miles for about $8 grand less than an 07 new one with similar options. I'm planning on spending that extra cash I saved on mods. Yeah the power passenger seat would be nice but I don't sit there, the shotgun seat is better lower anyway for those about to have their hair raised ! And I agree with JEB, Screamin' Yellow is definitely the fastest color out there.

If you haven't bought one YET...which you should go do....this should help. I just bought my first Mustang. 2007 GT, Grabber Orange, Interior Upgrade, fully loaded, power everything, Shaker 500 (which ROCKS!! more than enough power). I'm getting average of 19-20 mpg which is amazing cuz I've been driving like an idiot! I absolutely LOVE this car.....it drives like a dream and gets more looks than any other car on the road. (With the exception of a few GT500's in the area) Anyways.....definately a great investment. Oh and stock.....there aren't to many cars that I can't keep up with,or just pull away from, but the simple mods are soon to come.
one more thing....the 6 cd in dash is great and the heated seats rock too.....
The trip computer and the extra gauges were part of the IUP which also included that worthless my color option. That had to be one of the dumbest things Ford ever came up with.
That and Fords passionate love affair with under-revving, asthmatic OHV engines. Low down "power" is well and good but please....how about a little bit of pedigree above 6500 RPM?? The Cobra was the way to go. DOHC is where it is at, plain and simple.

Ummmm... the 4.6L is an SOHC (Single Over Head Cam) engine. The last Ford OHV (Over Head Valve) V8 engine in a Mustang was the 5.0L in 1995.
