So I am thinking of selling my 05 manual GT and buying a 07 Automatic. I am 40 and getting some knee issues and my daily commute is stop and go. I do go to the track and have a Saleen S/C that I would put back on the 07. So am I a girlyman with a muscle car thats not a manual trans?
Stop and go would be hard with the five speed, I can agree.
If it is your knee cap that's hurting, you can get rid of that pain in the gym, with about three days worth of workouts. Do "leg extensions". The lift, where you are seated, with your feet hanging below you, like you are in a chair with your feet hanging above the ground and the padded bar, in front of your shins.
Most gyms will let you work out free once or twice, if you are not already a member of one. I get that pain about once every three-four years and do some leg extensions and it goes away for three-four more years. No leg extensions and the pain becomes quite difficult to deal with.
I have a backup, automatic car, just in case I get an injury that makes it so I can't drive stick for a while. You're not a girly man. If anyone asks why you got an auto, tell them your supercharged five speed was not compatible with your bunged up knees. They'll understand.
Buy the car you want. Enjoy the heck out of it. You'll never be sorry.
Hell I origanally ordered an automatic cause I never drove a stick before but Ford sent me a stick. So it was either take this one or reorder and not get sonic blue. Im sure Ive worn out the clutch faster than normal but oh well, Im gettin pretty good with it

There's nothing wrong with the automatic. The car is a little heavier and it cost more.
But it's actually pretty nice for us 'Over 40 Crowd'.
Getting the automatic was my wifes only condition for letting me get the car. After she tore up the clutch in my Explorer Sport, I thought why would I want her to do the same to the Stang.
In any case, I'm very happy with the automatic transmission. I love the gear shift on center console as opposed to the steering column

As long as you don't Know too much about fashion, practice yoga, bake gingerbread men, cry when your not at a funeral, or watch too many chic flicks.....you don't qualify for girly man status.

If you are getting relief from leg extensions then you are masking the symptom of another problem. My guess is if you sit a lot your hip flexors are probably atrophied and if you have strong hamstrings or calves you're getting a pull on the knee. The knee is held in proper alignment only by the surrounding muscles and connective tissue. Any imbalance in one or more of those muscles pulls on the knee cap - then you get pain. Best thing to do is to see a professional that can watch you move and make an accurate diagnosis.
Leg extensions will temporarily engage and fire the lower guads and maybe provide some relief, but it is not addressing the real problem. Over time, actually, leg extensions are probably one of the most damaging exercises that exist and I wish the machines would not be allowed in gyms any more. Just look at how it works - once you sit, the hip flexors are unloaded and no longer part of the "lifting" equation. Yet you need the hip flexors to balance against the guads, the glutes, and the lower back muscles to keep everything properly aligned and not straining or using the wrong muscles for the job. Our bodies were designed for incredible motion and they are designed well. But getting in a sitting position and then loading a small portion of the quads creates havoc on the musculature - those are really strong muscles and if not properly worked can pull on a lot of other smaller muscles and connective tissue and you end up with some real damage. If you think about it, is there any type of motion, in even the most extreme sport, where you load just a small portion of the massive guads without the benefit of the other muscles joining along.
This is why I do not do "isolation exercises." Pound for pound the BEST over all exercises you can do are:
Squat
Deadlift
Pull ups (real ones)
Saxon Side bends
Done properly of course. The body was designed to work as a unit - all muscles contributing to a particular motion even if they are not on the "moving part." One way or another, they are all involved in stabilization if not the actual movement. Once you start working selected muscles then things get out of balance.
Work the body and your body will work!!!

If you ever mention window treatments (whatever they are), we will beat you and leave you on the side of the road.
If you ever mention, to me, that my shoes don't match my belt or that I am wearing white, after Labor Day... see above.
If any of your clothes "set off your eyes"... see above.
You don't have to be a girly man, to be a wuss LOL!

Although I did some major snippage there, I agree with it all
I do leg extensions to correct my muscle imbalance where the vastus lateralis is slightly stronger than the vastus medialis which causes the patella to be ever-so-slightly shifted laterally and not ride perfectly in it's track. "Runner's knee" pain is gone immediately. Also "positive theater sign" where you can't sit with your knee bent for very long can be treated this way. It's caused by the same imbalance which can arise from things as simple as running a lot in sports that use a lot of directional changes, like soccer, football and, in my case, lacrosse, mogul-skiing and hockey.
I have an 05 auto and enjoy driving it. My only recommendation is to get a CAI and tune. I installed a JLT and 93 tune a month ago and what a difference in the car. The auto shifts hard and at high RPM when you get on it, and will chirp the tires from 1 into 2 and 2 into 3rd. My neighbor just got a 03 corvette with a stick and I have taken him every time from a stop or a roll because he can't shift well enough to keep next to me. With the auto just floor it and hold on.

Hey - sounds like you are really on top of it all. Good man!!
And most importantly, good luck in taking care of that.

My wife is 43 and she selected a stick, no your not a girlie man. Maybe tired before your time. The clutch on the 07 is soft compared to my other cars, hence the reason she picked a stick over the auto. She can always drive my 01 F150 4Wd (she hates trucks) LOL
