Default Driving Your Car on a SCCA Track

I lady I work with has been an active member of SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) like forever. She has known Boris Said way before there were "Said Heads" and chats with Paul Newman when he shows up to race. She told me about a proggram the SCCA has that might be of interest to those that like or want to drive their car on a track. You do have to be a SCCA member but there various types including temporary. Oh, no convertibles. Safety thing I guess.

The program is called PDX. the course they use in Atlanta is Road Atlanta.

The following definition of a PDX is taken from the SCCA website:

"PDX events are about you, the driver. Plenty of seat time, plenty of individual instruction and a ton of driving exercises make up a PDX; all of which is designed to educate you and make you more confident behind the wheel, both on the track and on the street.

Participants receive a solid blend of driving instruction, ranging from the classroom to in-car training to “follow me” drills. A wide range of topics are discussed and shown at a PDX, including: following a “racing line”, passing zones, speed limits and other general driving techniques. Of course, each driver receives feedback from his or her instructor at the end of each lesson.

PDX events are non-competition based. Why? Because the focus is on you. Three other levels of the Time Trials program provide competition, but it’s important that the skills taught at a PDX are learned beforehand so you as a driver can enjoy the latter levels of the program the way they were intended. "

You can look at the schedule for PDX events for the Southeast at www.sedivracing.org The National website is www.scca.com

Hey, thanks for the post! I have been looking for a long time for something like this.

I know the Mustang Club of the Carolinas, www.ponytales.org sponsor a track day once a year at Carolina Motorsports park in Kershaw, SC.

This is awesome, thanks for the info.

Cool. I have autocrossed a couple times with the middle Ga chapter down here in Macon. One of my goals is to get the car on the track at Atlanta. That might be a good reason to justify the cost of an SCCA membership. What does the PDX cost?

My understanding is that it can vary track to track. I think for Road Atlanta it is $100.

The SCCA has several sites for PDX. This year, they are having one at Heartland Park. They also have them at Hallet in Ok (not this year), Omaha, St. Louis. They usually run both days on weekends. You can run both days or just one. I was hoping to go to Hallet this year, but will have to wait til next year.
