Anybody else panic at the thought of...valet parking?
We had fantastic weather here in Nashville last week, so I was able to park the Ranger for awhile and drive the Mustang to work. We were hosting our national sales reps, and several of them complimented me on the ride; enough that a pal who drives one of the new GTOs was getting annoyed.
But, I digress.
So, Thursday evening, the company president stopped by my desk and asked me to join the group that was hosting the reps for dinner and drinks. Problem: Nice restaurant, but no parking lot. Answer: Valet parking, complimentary of course.
Complimentary my butt. I tipped him pretty heavy when I gave him the keys, was tempted to make it even heavier, and asked him to take it easy. I didn't enjoy dinner, having paranoid visions of THAT SCENE from "Ferris Bueller" running through my head. I gave the car a good once-over when we left - everything looked in place, but it still wasn't my best evening out.
So...anybody have any horror stories to back up my worst fears, or am I overreacting here? I mean, valets park Chevys and Mercedes every night, right?

"Relax, Im a professional."
"A professional what?"
hehehe
Great movie.
When my wife and I were on our honeymoon in Vegas, (yes I know it's cliche) we did the valet thing at the Las Vegas Hilton. (I wanted to ride the Star Trek Experience)
When we were ready to leave, it took almost 30 minutes standing there waiting for my car (98 GT ragtop heavily modified).
When it finally pulled up, he stopped way down the driveway and a girl carrying fast food bags got out. Then he pulled up to the door where we were. Not only did my ride smell like greasy food, but it had 85 miles on the ticker more than when we checked it in.

I guess we Texans just dont go to places where some stranger gets in your car and drives it any where! I mean I shouldnt say all Texans, its a big state.
Im 52 years old, and never even saw a vallet execpt on TV I cant even imagin going to a place like that so I know now Im sure as hell not very worldly
We recently stayed at a nice hotel and I wanted my Stang parked in a more secure area, that is, valet parking. Had to tip a little extra to convince the valets to let me drive it in and out. They had to ride with me. Against their policy but I guess money talks.

A thought for you paranoid types... myself included...if you have a hand held tuner just set the rev limiter to 2000 and they can't have any fun!!
Yup I agree. When I had to leave my car overnight to have the windows tinted, I set mine to 3000. Hey, I have a 4.10 LOL. I also wrote the milage down and distance to empty.

Most of the restaurants in downtown Nashville have valet parking, because there don't seem to be a lot of parking lots around - and the ones that are there are usually filled for sporting events; the Predators are getting fairly popular. Next time, I'll call ahead and set up a spot in front of the building. It may cost a few extra bucks, but for the peace of mind it's worth it.

Have never had anyone else but me and my parents drive the car and that's only because I have to share the car with them. I will never let anyone else drive my baby. No valet parking for me.

I only let (select) people I know drive mine. We went to a wedding at a snooty country club with valet parking, and I ended up asking the valet if there was another place I could park it. He pointed me to a parking lot down the hill. I realize that they're parking way more expensive cars than mine, but I'd like to think that a Stang is a bit more fun than a Mercedes sedan!
Speaking of teaching your friend to drive stick... I taught my wife how on my beater pickup, which has a screwed up clutch anyway, before I let her touch the Mustang. She liked the Mustang a whole lot better! I did find that the engine in the Mustang is torque-y enough that you don't even have to use the gas to get going if you're on a flat place. So that might not be too bad to teach someone how to drive stick. (Don't grind the gears, don't grind the gears... Awww, man!)

I don't worry about it too much. Don't get me wrong, I care about my car as much as everyone else on this forum. However, after seeing what other people leave in valet my car would probably be way down the list of vehicles to be taken out for a Ferris experience. In S. FL. it's nothing to see multiple Vipers, Ferraris, BMWs, Porsches, Rolls, etc. in the parking lots. I usually don't worry anymore than when I'm parking the car myself. There's always the possibility someone is going to ding it but I don't worry about the attendants taking it out and abusing it.
