i would like to know, what is the advantage of having the tuner over the stock tune that it comes with? And keep in mind, NOT a CAI and Tune, just the tune.
So if i was to go and get a SCT Caliberator, what in my car would improve? and also, is it worth the $$$?
i am talking a canned tune from someone like brenspeed.com I know that a dyno tune would improve the car, but i was wondering about a canned tune from the X Caliberator
There are two different types of Xcal devices. The 9400 (xcal) is the custom tuned device (specific to your mods) and the 9415 (Strategy Flash) tuner contains canned tunes from SCT that cover a number of popular mods (user-selectable). At this point there is little point in doing a dyno tune.
Bottom-line: you would see improvement with either the 9400 or 9415 even without a CAI but your gains would be most significant with the CAI.

Thanks,
You would see some improvements in the performance. More power on the top end, more torque on the low end. More so with an automatic over a manual trans since the shift points would change. Possibly better MPG if you could keep your foot out of it. IMO, without any mods, not worth the money. 2.91 x $3 / 356 + 42 = a long time to recoupe your investment. enjoy your ride hotshot.
i called Steeda earlier for pricing on their CAI & tuner, they told me I have to give them my engine code or something, can't remember.
they, Steeda, boast the highest HP gain's i've read, up to 38.
Anyone want to chime in the ACTUAL hp gains from Steeda or another manufacturer?
CAI w/X-Cal 2, if I go with Steeda, will be bought within 2-3 weeks.
38 rwhp with just a CAI and tune??? Doubtful. 5.0 magazine did a test of the top CAIs http://www.mustang50magazine.com/tec...ons/index.html
The JLT II was the consistent top performer at 27.9 rwhp/21.5 rwtq (with a tune). There's no way the Steeda is good for another 10 rwhp.

I always read about the power gains, and usually the company makes it sound better than what your really getting.. yah kno? like sure your gonna be better top end and better low end torque.. but i know you sure as hell wont get 45hp to the wheels like i read on one site.. 27hp would be believeable though. I plan to take mine to a dyno sometime this year and see how much im pushing now.

Yeah, I agree. That test your talking about is what I used for research when I bought my CAI. Steeda didn't even have anything on the market at that time and when they finally came out with something, it was just a filter and a shield using the stock intake tube. That thing wasn't competitive so they finally came out with a kit with a smooth elbow. Steeda is behind the curve on this issue, no way they're blowing all the serious players away like that. Pure propaganda if they're claiming +38 HP.
