So which do you think would be best for a daily driver? It would seem that you may be a bit biased since you drive a monster on a daily basis, but for us lil' beasts, you think the Stage 3's may be too much? Heads and forged internals are WAY down the road. They haven't even made the to-do list yet. I'm thinking Stage I or II, but they are all priced the same on many sites.

Cheers!
It still makes power almost to about 6750 rpm now so it did help considerably. I was concerned going that high but there was no detectable valve float.

I think the stage 3s are the perfect cam. Lift and duration is not too excessive but there is still a nice lopey sound to them at idle. I had the stage 1s and they were undetectable from stock sound-wise. They did help with low end torque I felt. The stage 3s make good power above 4000 rpm.

Stage 3's are fine for the daily driver. Some people hear stage 3 cams and they are thinking too loopy, but not the case with the comp cams, and still have great gains. Brenspeed has a good write up on them.

Ive heard BBR stage 2 cams which appeared more loopy that the stage 3 comp cams. In addition...lets not all forget...planning, planning, planning. The future will have a large storage unit if we dont...Right Mark? LOL

I hear that! And for what it's worth, I wouldn't touch those BBR cams with a 10 ft pole.

Yeah, I've heard nothing good about the BBR stuff. It may sound cool, but your car will suffer in the long (or short) run.

so the difference i heard from comp stage III and IV is about 10 hp ?

stlwagon wich heads did u bought? FRPP, BBR, SHM, Livernois ? or ported the stock ones ? and wich stage (if there is any) of your chosen heads.

Is this a hard combo to tune ?

61 rwhp seems a good # for me!

Thanks

I think I read on the Comp website that the Stage IV's are for racing only. I mean, you could throw them in the car, but I bet it would be unbearable on a daily basis.

They were the FRPP pnp heads. Wasn't terribly difficult to tune. Took a little while to get the a/f right with all that extra air. Not sure how much of that 61 was from just the heads/cams. I'm sure the forged internals added some to the mix.

I agree.

Even after a complete rebuild of my engine, the only stock components remaining are the cams and the TB. I remain unconvinced that I need to change either of them at this point. I can pretty much guarantee that my car will run in the 10s while I still have stock cams, too.

And when I do decide to change cams, I doubt I will get an off-the-shelf grind. Unless there is a perfect grind on the market, I would rather have a custom grind done to match my engine and how it's used. Just my 2 cents...

How much would it cost to throw in new heads + cams with new retainers and springs AND tune ?

4,000 exchanging heads ? 4,500 not exchanging your heads? or how much
