I'm gonna do some axle backs and from all the posts I am pretty sure I have narrowed it down to either the FR GT or GT-A or possibly the Flowmaster American Thunder Axle backs which sound pretty good on paper and are priced right. Anyone familiar with these? Are the GT stingers worth the extra two hundred bucks over the GTAs? Any help would be appreciated.
IYHO are the GTAs louder than the GTs? Also, if you know, which of the two will add more horsepower?
The GTs are much louder than the GTAs.... I'm not sure if either do much horsepower-wise, but I imagine the GTs have an edge due to their straight-through design, but I could be wrong.
Just like stlwagon and stkjock already said - it's really subjective.
I ran the JBAs for a while and they had a good price. Then went with the Zoomers which I like even better. But they ain't cheap - figure on 5 bills or so.
I too ran JBAs and they looked great but were way too quiet.
BLK281GT and I went the same route. The plain old stainless tube is the easiest way to make the musclecar sound.
Listen for yourself:
I'm currently running JBA axle-backs and like them.
They are a little less obnoxious than the other options, but I figure when I'm motivated enough to install the JBA LT headers and O/R H-pipe, that will be taken care of...
The mufflers make a BIG difference. Had to take my modded Macs off cause I'm getting worse milage. The poor motor was seeing 4-5000 rpm's all the time! They sure sound sweet though.

Are there any axle backs that add any significant amount, (say @13)of horsepower, or are the product descriptions mostly a lot of hype?
No discernible change on any dynos that I know of. Although if you do get any improvement, that will be one lonely and incredibly expensive horsepower. Like a throttle body extension thingy.
You will get worse milege though, that's unavoidable. Because you will be on the throttle more, to hear those ponies.
Thanks for all the info on the axle backs; I think I may go with the Flowmaster American Thunders, but of course, I have a question I hope some one can shed some light on. I came across a pdf installation instruction file for the ATs which was by and large pretty straight forward, except for the fact that in big letters it stated that it was recommended the mufflers be welded on (I gather to the midpipe). This is the first time I've come across this and was wondering if this is particular to the ATs or if this is a general recommendation for all axle backs so that there is no exhaust leak and/or rattling.
