TCI's shifter is available now, but they've priced it at $425. For me, that's just too much to even consider it, though I like the looks. If it was 275-350, I might consider it.
I like the idea of an improved shifter for the automatic transmission. The few times I've tried to do something at the drag strip, the standard one seemed a bit sluggish to respond to motion, and I was never confident it would do exactly what I wanted it to. This is in contrast to road shifting, which I have practiced enough to be sure I'll be able to anticipate what it will do and when. Not a whole lot of shifting going on in autocross, given the short courses and the long torque curve of the V6.
On another forum someone is describing a "ratchet shifter" as one that's like a paddle or motorcycle shifter: pull it back against a detent/spring, and it shifts one gear and returns to the central/original location. Pull it again, one more gear, return, and so forth, both up and down the scale of gears, pulling for one direction, pushing for the other.
If that is actually what the TCI shifter does, it may be worth the money. Where do you say it's available now? I have yet to hear of an actual delivery and installation.
As for appearance, I don't really care that much. It's another of those things that are far from essential to the driving experience, like colored spark plug wires. Nice to look at, nice to know they are there, but when I'm doing what the car wants me to do - driving it well and with precision - such a thing just doesn't enter into the picture.

Here's a picture of my automatic shifter. We had to do a,little fabrication work and had the boot made custom by a local guy. Not for the faint of heart but I think it came out nice.
It's a B&M prostick mounted up through the center console. We used the retention piece that a sock shift boot for the new boot. Ran all the cables out in front (just enough room). The reverse lock out is hidden by the boot. This is obviously for a three speed racing trans but I'm not sure why you couldn't do it with the stock trans.? Just may take a little work.

Also heard that it only ratchets UP, not down as well, like the B&M rachet shifters...
That sucks.
I won't be getting one.

They need to push it back another month and correct that.

If it ratchets up AND down, it would be of great use to Autocross drivers as well.
It would be great for me since I live in the country with LOTS of twisting, turning, hilly roads...

If it does not ratchet up & down they might as well save there time and forget about building it.

I just got off the phone with Patrick at TCI regarding the New shifter and he said it is now shipping!
It is the ratchet shifter that we were hoping for so give him a call at 888-776-9824 X 339
