Default Royal Purple - Liquid Perfomance Improvements

I have been using Royal Purple 5W20 Synthetic oil in my engine since the first oil change. I now have 22k + miles and have been very satisfied with the product.

This weekend I decided to change all my lubricants to Royal Purple products to see what performance improvements I could gain. I call it “Liquid Performance”.

I know everyone has their own opinion and loyalty to certain lubricants. There are obviously many quality products on the market. My objective here is not to get in a war over which is the best, each to his own, but rather share my experience with my change over to 100% Royal Purple Products.

I may in fact be a guinea pig for this experiment. So be it, because this guinea pig is jumping for joy. Following is a list of the lubricant changes I made this weekend:

Engine: (Royal Purple Synthetic) 5W20 High Performance Motor Oil

Radiator: (Royal Purple Synthetic) Purple Ice Coolant Additive

Transmission (5-spd): (Royal Purple Synthetic) Max ATF High Performance ATF

I corresponded with Royal Purple Tech’s on this as I know they recommend their Synchromax product for Manual Transmissions. This is what they said:

The factory fluid in the manual transmission is a Mercon atf (which is red in color).
The MaxATF that you put in is a fully synthetic atf which has the proper friction modifiers to be used in Mercon atf applications. It would satisfy Ford's warranty requirements.

The RP Synchromax is the preferred fluid for this manual transmission, as it is an atf but also contains our Synerlec additive technology to provide superior wear protection of the bearings and gears yet still allow the synchronizer to gear hubs to function for smoother shifts. However, since it is more than an atf, and also purple in color, it would be easy for a Ford Dealer to point the finger if you had a mechanical issue in the transmission - even if unrelated to the lubricant.

So - if you're after better performance - Synchromax is the first choice. If you want some increased performance but also want the 'factory warranty' then stay with the MaxATF.

Differential: (Royal Purple Synthetic) Max-Gear Automotive Gear Oil

Improvements Noted after changing these lubricants:
  • Greatly Improved overall Performance and Increased HP. (I could definitely feel the difference, No hesitation, smooth and rapid pick-up) “like a wild mustang” Exactly how much HP gain? I don’t know but a Definite increase in overall performance. Felt like adding the CAI for the first time, only in a silky smooth kind of way.
  • Dramatically reduced tranny/differential noise and ease of shifting. I’ve always thought the tranny and drivetrain where extremely noisy on my stang. After changing to a Hurst shifter I felt like the throw was shorter but not easy to shift. After changing the tranny and differential lubricants, I immediately felt the difference in ease of shifting and most the noise that was irritating and embarrassing me at times was GONE.
  • Unbelievably Increased fuel mileage. (I drive from Dallas to Houston every week) This is the 1st trip that I made it on one tank of gas. I used at-least ¼ of a tank (4 gallons) less than normal. At this rate, I believe this MOD will pay for itself in about a month or two with as much driving as I do.

There is a great article in The December, 2007 issue of Modified Mustangs Magazine entitled “Synthetic Revelations” where Don Roy of MM interviewed Royal Purple.

More info can be found at www.royalpurple.com

I personally think these products are great and can’t believe the performance improvements since changing to 100% Royal Purple Lubricants. Thought you all might like to know.

If you drain all your fluids and replace them with Amsoil or Mobil 1
you may notice a slight improvement over what you have now.
I not starting an argument just stating a fact.

Actually, I’m not Intiguged, but I am honestly Intrigued. What performance improvements have you gained?

I use Amsoil and I've noticed that my engine runs a little cooler
and my tranny runs a lot cooler and seems to shift better. Take
a look at my profile and checkout the type of eqt that I work on.
At work I have used a lot of Royal Purple products with not so
good results.

I did read your profile. I too, am in the Oil & Gas Business and used to work on High HP Crash Firefighting Vehicles for 10 Years in the USAF. The early results with Royal Purple are extremely positive. We may be debating the difference in between synthetic oils VS. the difference between the OEM Lubricants and synthetics.

What Mobil 1 lube are you using in the manual trans, ATF or Hypoid? Do you use any additive in the limited slip?
I'm a charter member of the Mobil 1 club myself and will have 1st oil change this week on my '08 GTCS.

I use Amsoil Universal ATF in my trans.

Does a friction modifier have to be added with the Max-Gear in the differential?

It supposedly is already in the mix.

As stlwagon said. It's already in the lubricant. Seems Royal Purple may have thought it through more than some of the others.

I need to see dyno results of before and after to prove HP gain!

Well, I didn't dyno it before or after but My "seat of the pants" dyno tells me there's a significant improvement.

Between the reduced noise and ease of shifting along with the dramatically increased fuel milage is enough for me.

If my fuel milage has increased that much then it tells me there's less friction, drag, heat etc. in my engine and drivetrain. This obviously robs HP due to engine having to overcome the drag/resistance.

Like I stated before you will get the same results using Mobil 1 or Amsoil.

Call me a cynic, but I suspect posts that claim amazing (let alone noticeable) performance enhancements from doing nothing other than changing fluids are, at best, wishful thinking.

Kind of like how your car seams to run smoother and faster after a good wash and wax than when it was dirty. "Butt Dyno's" are notorious for being inaccurate!

It's all in your head -- but if it works for you, carry on!
