Question 2006 Mustang GT CAI and tuner question

I've decided on JLT Tuner with SCT X-2 Tuner. I keep seeing places to go to insure a good tune. What about JLT itself? They have a great deal on the combo with the SCT loaded with 3 custom tunes. The combo is $499. I would assume buying straight from the manufacturer could be trusted, just haven't seen them recommended much here. Just looking for some confirmation. It's Christmas time and this is what my wife is getting for me.

The JLT tunes are fine but there are better out there.

Thanks. I should also mention that I'm not planning on many performance mods. The CAI, maybe UDP, although with the response from the guy in Vegas, not sure now, and X-Pipe exhaust piece. With only these mods, would the tune from JLT be sufficient? Just looking for a little extra juice, not a complete overhaul.

I think you'd do fine with the JLT tune.

I have been running the JLT 93 octane tune since 11/05 on my '06 and am completely satisfied. You can feel the power increase in the seat of your pants, where it counts, and it has been extrememly stable (never a code, CEL or retune required since the initial install).

I went with Steeda mustang, for all my parts!!! you should check them out. I also have Steeda CAI with inlet elbow and sct tune.
Rated for about a 40+hp gain depending if you tune for premium gas...

40+ hp for a CAI and tune is a bit optimistic.

There are no CAIs that will provide that kind of gain. 28 rwhp is about the limit.

I had the same thing on my car, the tune was ok but when I went to dyno the car we re-tuned it due to the fact it was running very rich and it was dumping at 3000 RPM's. I think for the most part purchased tunes through the mail when you use a reputable company keep them rich so they are safe. From my experience no 2 cars are identical.

good luck with your plan on not many performance mods. I too started out just planning on doing the CAI and performance tune and was very happy with those mods Then I began to think, what if?? Before long I was hooked, I became a Mustang Mod Addict. Started doing all I could to get more and more HP's out of the pony. Eventually I got to the point where all that was left was to begin messing with the engine and since I really couldnt S/C it, being an automatic I thought why not just get a pony already blown? Hmmmmm, good idea The rest is hissstoereee

Have fun & enjoy and watch out for the Mustang Mod Bug, it's bitten many of us.

I bought my JLT and X-Cal from directly from JLT. I actually really liked the initial tune they gave me. Lots of user-adjustable features made life really simple without me having to contact a tuner for help. All was well until I got the headers and had to order a tune.

Not planning on a lot of mods? Yeah, that's what they all say in the beginning....

+1

I ordered that package from JLT as well. Jay Tucker is a great guy...very customer oriented. His shop is about 30 mins from the house so I went down and picked it up there. I installed mine in July and haven't had any problems. Great product and excellent customer service!
