went down to the dealer where i bought the car, and they told me they wanted nothing to do with an installation that would void the warranty of a brand new car... and we got nothing for performance shops around here. i live in a hick town where all we have is 4X4 mod shops lol. looks like i gotta go to a truck place or hit the road to look for a performance shop near me. i spoze theres gotta be something in Seattle. anyone know any good shops in Washington? I want my 4:10's dang it!

I can't really say I blame the dealer. Don't really understand it though. Possibly its the fear that you could come back on them for warranty work because the gears where installed by factory trained techs?
Anyway... any 4X4 shop can set up gears. Gear Swaps are more prevalent in the 4X4 world than it is in the street car scene. Changin gears is a Must when you go to tires over 35". Also, you have an 8.8" Ring gear. Very popular in Ford Truck applications, so they should have experience with them and be able to do a good job for ya.

Theres a few people in Yakima that do gears, but mostly for the 4x4 people. There aren't many places in town that will install aftermarket parts though, it can get really annoying. This came up on another forum I'm on so I will check to see what they said.
Pollocks Gears and Rears in Selah and Pat at 5th Wheel Truck Repair are the two places/people that I found that people trust. I don't have any experience with these places, but I have seen the rigs that they have done and they didn't have any problems.

I've heard good things about Randy's Ring & Pinion in Seattle, but if there's a good truck place in Selah you should be fine with them. The installation procedure is the same , and many truck people are pickier than car people about having things done properly. If they have a good reputation it's much closer than Seattle.

Ya, I wasn't expecting to see anyone from the area either. I hate not having any really good shops around, but there really wouldn't be that much of a market for them around here. I've also heard good things about Randy's Ring and Pinion, but I can't think of anyone that has went there.

Personally I would avoid the dealership for anything, unless you have a warranty claim... They probably wouldn't do gears because they didn't know HOW to! LOL! When I was a complete newbie one of the first things i wanted was gears... when I asked my local dealership how much to install, the answer I got was, "We don't know how long it would take, so we better quote you 8 hours... " OMG! Even as a newbie I knew that was not a good thing! LOL!
BTW... gears do not "void your warranty".. nothing voids your entire warranty... for a dealership to deny your warranty claim they need to show that your aftermarket part caused the problem... And gears are what I would call a "stealth" mod... dealership wouldn't even notice you put different gears in.. LOL!
You do realize you'll need a "tuner" to adjust your car's computer for the 4.10s?
Good to see people from Wa.My youngest son lives in Seattle but drives a Subaru like everybody else there. All wheel drive because it rains all the time.

It's pretty much mandatory because of the combination of steep hills and occasional snow and ice. I have a big ol' 4x4 Dodge diesel truck to get around when that happens, not often enough for the ex-Californians to learn how to drive in it. Wrecks every two blocks. I once saw a guy sliding down a hill with all four wheels locked, sideswiped a Mercedes and just kept sliding.
Body shops do very well here...

guess I got the exception the dealer in my area is the one who sells for Ford Racing and they were more than happy to mod the car. And they had all the toys in stock (gears, dual exhaust kits, suspension packs)
and would pistons be considered a "stealth" mod?? Is there any way for the dealer to see I swapped out rods + pistons??
yeah i relize you need a tuner to correct the speedo' i was gonna get a cold air intake and tuner at the same time right after the gears. anyone know anything about the SCT Livewire? it looks good but none of the sites really have a good discription for it. the way they make it sound some of the other ones do more but the live wire is a hell of alot more expensive. was gonna get the bamma race tune for the live wire to go with the exhaust, gears and intake.
