Default too many exhaust threads

i just looked through like 15 threads before i gave up. i have an 08 4.0 mustang. i want dual exhaust and i'm not exactly sure what the "Drone" is everyone's talkin about. Could someone explain just what a Drone is?

I plan on getting shorty headers and i want to get a set of mufflers that sounds the best but id like to understand what this "Drone" is.

Can we out of all the experience on this forum find the best sounding exhaust system for the 4.0 and sticky it to the top to help with the exhaust questions lol.

What i was thinkin is maybe some Shorty header (or would long headers be better?) high flow cats with American Thunders. (or whatever has less drone and the deepest sound)

And is there a way around cutting a whole or changing your bumper and still have dual's? like maybe dumping the exhaust down before it reaches the bumper like the old muscle car "Axle dump" trick?

Personally, I think I have the best sounding exhaust. Mac performance headers, pro-chamber, and mufflers w/3" tips. It does produce a hell of a "drone sound" and sets off a lot of car alarms all the time. Especially in multi level parking structures. I like driving through those reving my engine once in a while so I can hear all these different car alarms go crazy. Good fun!
More about the drone sound. The best way I can think of to describe it is like those old movies where the people are on board an airplane with multiple propellers. Like maybe WW2 movie with bomber planes. In my car, it's kinda like being in a B-17 flying fortress. Even with the windows rolled up, there's still a very strong, deep, piston engine sound. on long drives, it can be overwhelming, but that's what good stereo systems are for.

Well basically drone is a low deep sound that tends to rattle the change in your cup holder or your windows. Depending on how bad it is determines whether it will drive you crazy or not. I have the dual Flowmaster American Thunders and can say that they sound great, because people always ask and compliment, and that the drone is minimal. Its there, but its not horrible at all, and if you turn the radio slightly higher you wont hear it at all. Nonetheless, the sound is great and this setup has been pretty popular. Many people say you cant go wrong with putting a Flowmaster on a Mustang.

Default Great!

Well i made my choice. Shorty headers to an H pipe to dual flowmasters.
if thats what drone is thats fine. i loved the loud ass exhaust i had on my old charger. engine ran like crap but the exhaust sounded like you were in a nascar lol. you could be driving down first street and hear car alarms chirpin like they do before they go off lol. i loved it!
